Comment:
Clearly one of those profs who'd rather be researching/writing than teaching. Seems surprised and slightly annoyed when students don't understand, so perhaps avoid if you don't grasp concepts quickly. Relaxed guy though, and nice unless you're a) slow or b) upset about your mark, which you probably will be if you're usually a very strong student.

After reading these, I was expecting him to be terrible - not at all the case. The worst you can say about him is that he's not an exceptional teacher; I found him to really helpful and patient. He's clearly given his lectures a lot of thought

Attending the class is useless. The exams are similar with past exams. Many students just hired a tutor and do the past exams with the tutor ,and they got 90+.

Had a similar experience as noted by another student: went from an A in 101 to a C- in 301, and my grade in this case was a function of one variable: I for interest. Avoid this prof.

Study the past midterms and finals then you will ace the course for sure. The TA is not marking everyone with the same standard, like although if I made the same mistake as my friend did, my marks got deducted but my friend did not...couldn't understand why she marked this way...

Don't get me wrong, I got A+ from him. But I suggest you to write to the dean of arts or VP academic and ask "deny him tenure" on basis of contempt of students. If enough people do this, he won't become "associate" professor and he will be kicked out of UBC.

HAHA midterms are super easy because it is the same as the homework. Homework gives no marks, so just learn the answers and you will understand the concept. His Final was like his midterm which was also super easy. He likes to explain weird concepts, but I dun go to class very often....textbook was great, read the solutionss

Hmm his class is ok...textbook is useless. Dont do the problem sets because you will have no idea how to do it. Rather, you study the answers really really hard. He teaches a bunch of math that makes no sense whatsoever. But one good thing is that you deserve whatever mark you get at the end...

On the whole, his class is not entirely terrible, that is of course, if your appreciate professors who are characterized by a contemptible and ignominious disposition. His class is not hard if you understand the problem sets, but expect an uphill battle, and a professor who is seemingly your enemy. He does not look out for the good of the student.

This is a joke. Horrible. You can go from A+ to F in from 101 to 301, learning no new concepts. He can teach baking a cake, into igniting some TNT because he'll jes blow it all up.

he was terrible, talked to the ground, didnt explain anything very well had no clue at all what he was saying, and since no one did , no one had any questions...so he just plowed through the material, had too much time so cancelled couple clsses and then took off a week before the final ..telling us there was no way to reach him

It is really hard to understand his accent. If taking this course, be prepared to learn everything from the textbook and tutorials.

His lectures are hard to understand. I could barely understand what he was saying and his final is extremly hard. Don't take it unless you're prepared to learn the whole course by yourself...

worst class i took...he mumbled, never looked up at the students and had a very thick accent. His notes were very dissapointing and when you asked a question in class he never seemed to answer correctly, always answering diff questions with the same sort of answer. If given the choice, for your own benefit, dont take his course!

generally, he's not bad...but his style is extremely inaccessible to a majority of the class...sometimes i understood his lectures, but more often i didn't...i still did pretty well, kept my average thru out...the TA saved my life...read the book and learn it by intuition...natural talent for calculus won't be enough to survive this class

He is not a bad prof.He tried to teach students the proper way of doing Econ. For me,he is very helpful.I learned a lot from him which will be very helpful later on in other Econ courses,I believe. You just need to really understand the assignments and the exams will be a piece of cake, I swear. This is what I did and I walked away with a A+ easily.

The TA basically taught the class in tutorial because Okan was useless! He lectures at a sub-100 level but the hw assignments and exams are very hard. Try to ask him a question and all you get is general concepts, never specifics. The topics are very interesting but you wouldn't think that from attending his classes.
