This prof is a legend. I took nearly every class I could with him. He's not an easy class by any means, but he delivers high quality lectures and is very clear with direction regarding assignments. I really enjoyed his lectures. If you really like European politics or history, especially German, I cannot recommend him enough.

Awesome seminar prof. He made it very enjoyable to attend the seminar every week. Without trying to copy the other person's review from the same class, he is super chill, and nice, I loved taking his class. Learned a lot. He helped me a lot outside of class, with future resume additions! Would, HIGHLY recommend.

Really polite, informative, knowledgeable and easy professor. No mid term or final. Just a few small writing assignments and a final essay + presentation. Marks very easy as well. Definitely an easy seminar course with a chill professor.

Great prof with crazy amounts of knowledge. Incredibly dry textbook material is made very relevant and interesting in the lectures. Easy marker and a yummy treat to look at makes an 830 class more than bearable.

Easily my favourite EUS and Poli Sci teacher. I actually go to his 8:30 classes because I know I wont feel like killing myself at the end of it. Knows his stuff and actually tries to get you to learn it instead of throwing it in your face. Schmidtke! Your AWESOME!

Schmitty, You are a legend. They should build a statue of you in front of the poli sci building. I have taken several 300-400 level courses with him, and he must be by far the best prof ever since Matt James and Cosmo Howard. And yes, konrad Adenauer is my hero as well.

Very good teacher, smart and interesting for a topic that can become easily boring, but not with him. I liked the different guest lecturers and the variety of topic presented through them. I agree about the dryness of the lectures sometimes however. Nice marker too.

Quite possibly the best prof I've ever had since Matt James. He is passionate about the subject matter and conveys his points very well, if he doesn't know something he won't hide it, and will research it for the next class. I highly recommend this class if you like European Politics. The class was really interesting, and full of in-depth info.

best poli sci professor currently at UVIC, hands down. The material can be dry sometimes, but he makes European Studies about as interesting as they can be. Very fair marker, and always very considerate of any problems that might arise. Very few assignments, I never did the assigned reasons and had no problem....would highly reccomend him.

A solid prof, and a fair marker. While his lectures are dry, he conveys his points well. Assignments are fairly straightforward, and there is more emphasis on learning the material than testing it, also a plus. Overall, a class worth taking.

Enjoyable 'easy' class. Nice mark booster. It was truly more focused on educating rather than excessive examination and paper-writing. He was a good prof and evoked great class discussion and added to it nicely. One problem is that he's next to impossible to get ahold of. Either go during his office hours or you're out of luck with e-mail, etc.
