Opinionated. He sees history as mainly determined by economics; a Marxist tendancy, though he never seemed to have a stomach for political action, so maybe the title "liberal" is misleading. He's a pure historian.

lectures sometimes seem like a waste of time since it's almost verbatim from the book he wrote, but he does throw in some other information not found in the text ... great class, very interesting, very fun ... would definitely take another class taught by him

this man is brilliant! Intense, riveting lectures that leave you on the edge of your seat. He may go over some heads, as seems to have been the class with the clodhoopers below. If you're intelligent and are prepared to learn and take notes, then this is your class.

I did not find his views liberal in the least. Nor did I find him conservative. He struck me as a moderate, as most historians are. My complaint with the class was the size. I also am a Packer fan, so his analogies rang true for me!

Prof. Hearden is stuck in his liberal Wisconsin mode most of the time when he is not talking about the Greenbay Packers and using football analogies that do not fit to US foreign policy. He needs to be fairer in listening to the views of others.
