Comment:
Many of the complaints about chemistry are not about Dr. Woodward but rather the chemistry department. he is a good lecturer and will help you with problems if you ask. he even reviewed a cover letter for me. That being said, Chem 1220 is awful and do not take it unless required. The chem department hates undergrads and will destroy your GPA.

He's a great guy, but he isn't a great lecturer. He skips over difficult questions and concepts, and missed a bunch of lectures. Apparently very smart, but Woodward doesn't seem to care enough to prepare his students for the extremely difficult exams that are not set by him.

Dr. Woodward was an well respected professor. His lectures were helpful but the most benefit a student can get from him are his office hours. Recitation was a breeze. Our lab was based on perovskite research which he would willingly help with. I did poorly on one of the midterms and I still ended up with an A in the class. Read the book though!

Dr. Woodward takes a large class and makes it feel small. he does a great job of identifying what the class is struggling with and addressing it. He is often available and willing to help outside of class if needed.

Dr Woodward literally wrote the book we used. Lecture and homework lined up with it perfectly. He had an extremely good knowledge of what he was teaching but his tests are killer. All multiple choice which actually was horrible. Good luck

Dr. Woodward was awesome! He was very clear on what he taught, he had a lot of dry humor in his teaching as well. Exam averages are the norm (55-60%), but his class curved like 100 points when I took it. Highly recommend! He knows his stuff! (PS - He looks like Jeff Foxworthy)

Dr. Woodward is one of my favorite professors I've had at OSU. His lectures are clear and super helpful- he wrote the book so he definitely knows his stuff! You'll have to study to do well, but the tests are fair and he makes sure to include a lot of examples in class notes. I would definitely recommend taking his class if you can, great guy!

Generally cares about the subject matter and that the students are properly learning. I found him to be very helpful whenever requested. I also enjoyed how he would talk about how many of the concepts would be important for real life.

I hate chemistry. I took it as a GEC. With that being said, Dr. Woodward made it as not-bad as he possibly could. He was crystal clear and was always willing to help. He genuinely cares about students' understanding. If I were forced to take another chemistry class, I would make sure that Dr. Woodward is the teacher.

He is a great teacher and lecturer in addition to be a really nice person. His lectures are easy to understand and office hours are very helpful. The exams are pretty straightforward. He covers pretty much everything in lecture so you probably don't have to read the book.

Do not take Honors Chemistry unless you know your****. People in the class are very talented and your averages are around 85%. However, Woodward is a great lecturer, very clear, simple, easy to follow. DO NOT READ YOUR BOOK, he is not familiar with it. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Very helpful and nice guy. I suggest taking 122 though.

He definitely knows his stuff and is particularly knowledgeable about the condensed states unit. He's a good teacher and explains things clearly. Only complaint is that he's not very timely with putting things up, (problem sets, quizzes, powerpoints) so get used to checking Carmen often.

Really nice guy, but not the best lecturer. Teaches the REEL section so beware. Is unwilling to help in email responses. A lot of the material covered in REEL is not in book so it is based off of his lectures which are not the best. Not as bad as Loza, but Pappas & Fus and WAY better. Really nice guy but not a great lecturer&tests were way 2 hard.

The most straightforward chem professor I have had. His exams don't cover things not gone over, unlike many chem professors. He was always willing to help during office hours and regularly attended lab.

Dr. Woodward is a great professor, and easily the best I had in my Gen Chem career. He holds review sessions, puts out review guides, and gives plenty of old midterms to study off of. You can email him and he'll actually respond, and he comes around during lab to offer help. If you're deciding between him and anyone else, take Woodward!

Oh where to start... This class was a mess. This was his first time teaching it, so it was waaay disorganized and confusing. The labs were worse, some kind of research experience that DID NOT enhance my learning. Very funny guy, super nice... but needs to prepare better for this class... be wary if you have him for 123

Dr. Woodward meant well, but this was his first time teaching the class. I was extremely disappointed. I think the phrase "Abandon all hope, all ye who enter" applies here.
