Paul is the best professor I've ever had. He takes does something incredibly challenging - teaching a 300 person lecture - and makes it fun. If you work really hard (and really like chemistry), you should be able to get an A. Whether or not you did terrible in the class, one thing is certain - this man is beloved by everyone.

Overall awesome prof, I highly recommend going to all lectures because he explains everything better in person rather than his videos on canvas. Also, I highly, highly recommend using the book and reading through the chapters. I wish I would've realized how helpful it was earlier in the semester!

If you want to hear about Thursday night skating stories, Paul Charlesworth is the guy for you. If you want to teach yourself chem and sit through pointless lectures just for iclicker points, Paul Charlesworth is the guy for you. If you want to take a class that has the highest fail rate at Michigan Tech, Paul Charlesworth is the guy for you

He is a good professor and knows his stuff but the class structure is terrible. Teaching chemistry to hundreds of engineering majors across every discipline just doesn't work. UChem1 seems like a hit or miss; I studied quite a lot, spent time outside class and went to the review sessions and still never did well on any of the exams

Charlesworth is an amazing professor, but the class is hard. Homework heavy course load with mandatory lecture attendance. He walks things through very clearly, though. I couldn't imagine getting through chemistry with any other professor.

End of 2nd yr student and still the hardest class. It did not make sense to me. I went to every class, every recitation, and additionally chemistry tutoring. Failed almost every exam, with a 60% or less. Some do good, many do terrible. Several of my friends flunked out, I passed w/ a decent grade because of homework and quizzes.

Charlesworth teaches in the biggest lecture hall. 15% of your grade is iClicker questions from class where you get a point for simply answering whether right or wrong. This course relies heavily on exams, 70% of your grade, and the other 15% is online homework assignments/quizzes. He's very laid back and his joy of teaching carries through.

Terrible teacher, you will have to teach yourself the whole class. Seems like a good teacher at first, but later you realize he actually does not teach the class but merely comments on how easy the problems are to do and then glosses over how to do them.

Charlesworth is a great professor and a funny guy that often gets some hate for the class he teaches. This is definitely a weed out class and many people that take it will fail, but if you work for it, you can make it. Exams are pretty rough but often curved, don't get discouraged if you get a 50 on the first exam. Go to the chem. learning center!

Dr. Charlesworth's U Chem 1 class is at least as hard as any class I've ever taken. Keeping up with the class is absolutely critical. The videos he posts on Canvas are extremely helpful and worth watching before lectures. Read the textbook and do your homework *before* the week of the exam. Did I mention to read the textbook? Read the textbook.

Paul is great, he's funny and great at communicating. However, his class is tough, it is definitely a weed out class at tech. My advice, don't procrastinate the homework, watch the video's outside of class, do the clickr questions, and you'll pass.

CH1150 is a difficult class, but Charlesworth handles it well. More work is placed on the student, but Charlesworth is always available to help. He makes the class interesting and funny in almost every lecture. It is one of the hardest freshman classes, but taught by one of the best professors.

He is a great professor. He does a lot of examples in class, but this means you have to spend A LOT of time out of class learning the material. Learn the material a day or two before it is covered in class. UChem I was by far the hardest class, but Charlesworth makes hard points easy and is a funny professor to boot.

He builds this mountain for you in lecture that you say "hey, I can do this if I put the hard work in" and you go on climbing that mountain, reading the chapters, doing practice problems, and preparing for online quizzes. Then your eyes meet the final exam and you realize he was on top of an entirely different (insert profanity) mountain.
