Professor Fossum is very nice and helpful. 3 tests, 3 short assignments and a research paper at the end of the course. The research paper is the final. You don't really need to buy the book. I would definitely take him again!

He's a very boring professor. This was his first semester teaching this class which explains his lack of organization. His class wasn't tough nor was it easy. You need patience when attending his class. He's a fair grader and gives feedback. Would I take him again? Yeah why not. He's better than other professors.

Keep your dictionary open during lectures. Didn't understand half of the fancy words he used. You just watch videos every class period then read articles for homework. We never once opened the book he required. The quizzes (tests) are pretty much all taken from the books chapters that we never discuss. I learned nothing from lectures. Self taught

Well, we didn't open the book once so DON'T BUY IT. We watched videos and read articles that we weren't tested on. The class time was misused in many ways; I could have taught the class better by following the reading in the book. With each quiz, the class was even more disappointed with the course. I feel like I haven't learned anything useful.

Professor Fossum is a serious intellectual and I appreciate that aspect of his class, although this aspect of his teaching is clearly not appreciated by his younger students. Students have a responsibility to make the most of their classes regardless who is teaching, so stop complaining.

Fossum is a fair professor, and I think he tries very hard to give you highest grade he can. Also, I don't think the class was that boring, as teachers SOME of this stuff should interest us. However, there were a group of students who used this class as "lunch, laptop, giggle, talk" time. So yeah..maybe they didnt like it.

His lectures are boring but the videos he shows make up for it. He tells you exactly what to do for the papers that you have to write. I would recommend going to every class because he will give examples of what he wants in class usually. He is very helpful if you need to see him. GO SEE HIM DURING OFFICE HOURS! He will remember you better.

Nice guy...very passionate. Is very encouraging of students and wants to hear their opinions on education issues. Sometimes his lectures are unnecessarily verbose but overall he is a good instructor.

He is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be. Just show up to class, make sure you participate in class disscusion, complete your assingments and you will be fine! The movies are very interseting and make the time go by fast. Make sure you dont plagerize and cite everything, he will take you to the dean!

Professor Fossum does speak very monotone and he uses large/strange words & sayings. However, he is extremely helpful and if you actually pay attention to the topics they are interesting and pertinent to education. As advisor to the MAT program he has helped me a ton. He is willing to advise you & genuinely seems to care about helping students.

well...It was very boring...I missed a few times but I still did ok. They are right about the big words though- I think he just likes to hear himself talk. Dont buy the book it doesn't help at all and all you really have to do is get the definitions for the quizzes so don't bother taking notes on the movies its not a big deal. not a horrible class.

Dr Fossum is a very annoying man. He gives very dull lectures but knows a lot. He is obsessed with this one writing assignment and his quizzes are tricky but not too hard. He seems like a very nice man, though.

He is the most annoying professor i ever had. No one ever knows what he's talking about bc he uses these weird expressions that no one understands. His exams don't test the material he teaches. Avoid him hes a really bad professor

At first, I was totally turned off to his monotone lectures. As the semester went on I learned that this man KNOWS what he is talking about. Take good notes and use the book to study for quizzes: he goes right off the study guide. Want particpation points? stop by his office to BS for a while and you'll get them.

His quizzes are very tricky, and he uses a lot of really big words so he is hard to understand. The textbook did not really help at all. There is one main assignment, a research paper, and he seemed to be an easy grader on that.

As long as you put in time for the issues paper and fill out the study guide he makes for tests, you'll be fine. The quizzes are a bit trickier than others I've experienced, but he's always willing to help out of class - in fact, I HIGHLY recommend you ask for help either via email or going to see him in person.
