Prof Freedman is the bomb!! He is so funny, quick and inspirational. I was always excited for class (despite being at 9am)- Mass Media Am Politics was such a cool, eye-opening course esp. during the election. Freedman is so passionate and has published his own studies. Careful, he will include very specific details from lecture in the quizzes.

Took this course during May Term at UVa's Morven Farm. Really enjoyed this interesting course and the chance to interact with Prof Freedman in a smaller class setting. Although this class is somewhat intense because it meets for five hours a day for ten days, it was fun and very worthwhile.

Professor Freedman is wonderful. His lectures are always interesting and animated. Although the class I took with him was 5 hours per day for 10 days, I was never bored. He is very accessible and happy to help with paper topics, reading questions, etc. I highly recommend taking any of the courses he teaches.

I took Freedman's summer Political Advertising course. Freedman is an amazing lecturer, and he's pretty funny. His class is easy if you skim the required books, participate, and pay attention in class. He does not try to trick you on the midterm/final; the questions are VERY straight-forward. Overall, the class was pretty easy. I received an A.

THE WORST CLASS I HAVE TAKEN INT HE POLITICS DEPARTMENT AND I AM A MAJOR! Tried to get into this class FOREVER. When I finally did, I was completely disappointed. Grading is based completely on the TA. Freedman is a good, engaging lecturer but the paper topics were AWFUL and there was a lot of reading (which was repetitive at that).

awesome professor! if you care at all about the media in america you will absolutely love this class - readings are always interesting and actually enjoyable (excluding the boring textbook which i dont think even he likes) and if you honestly go to every lecture and listen carefully even if you don't do the readings you'll get an A.

A fantastic professor! Interesting, funny, great lecturer, and very smart. Readings and lectures can be a little repetitive, but that makes the quizzes really easy. No tricks here, just wants to teach his students about the media and politics.

Great professor, really nice and outgoing, tries to get the class interested in topic. Tests are easy and straightforward. He doesnt try to trick you at all. Emphasizes the main points from lectures and readings. There's no need to take extensive notes, just pay attention during lectures and understand the main findings of the authors. Only criticism is that he's somewhat repetitive.

Freedman rocks! Class is enjoyable, especially if you take it in a small section over the summer. Tests are fairly simple, he's not a fan of the 'long essay', and your best bet is to study the syllabus to see what authors wrote on what topics. :)

freedman funny/nice but somewhat repetitive. easier, most material intuitive. lectures interesting but full of fluff. grade all on TA. paper topics easy and interesting. he is experienced in the media field and has a lot to teach. didnt do readings but it definitely hurt me come finals. just need to know basic outlines tho! most Qs from lecture.

I would recommend him for f---ing anything!! I just love him. One of the best profs I've ever had. Plus this class was during the summer so he really got to know us as individuals, which is cool because this class is taught during the semester in huge lecture halls. There were about 35 of us. Take this class during the summer if possible!!

Typical UVA politics professor: witty, engaging, and brilliant. Freedman will respect you and treat you like an adult, provided that you do the same. Tests are pretty easy if you've gone to class and taken good notes (the reading is required, but most test material came from lectures). Definitely would recommend him to anyone.

I totally agree that he basically kicks ass. We were stuck in a very poorly a/c-ed room in Cabell for more than 10 hrs per week and he really did make every efforts to make us laugh/stay awake/absorb the material, which showed that he really cares about his students. Excellent lectures and easy tests too.
