I took him for my WRT 200 gen ed and it was a mistake. I got a C+ on my first paper so I asked a lit major to help me on my second one and I got a B- he is a tough grader and takes attendence even though you use nothing that he talks about in class for papers. He says you need the textbook but you really dont. DO NOT TAKE

Paul Maltby is the hardest professor I have. He grades your papers very hard and is always expecting so much more. I feel like everything I do is just not good enough for him and he doesn't show any support for his students. Wish I dropped out when I could have. I would suggest not taking him.

Isn't the point of a writing class to teach students how to better their writing? He simply rambles about his own opinions all class. The only 'help' you get with your writing is peer-review. How are we supposed to review someone else's paper if nobody in the class is taught anything about writing? He's strict and provides no helpful material.

Professor Maltby's classes aren't too long, he always let us out early. He has a British accent which makes him a lot more interesting. He is hilarious and its an easy A as long as you attend the class (even though attendance isn't taken) and record good notes from the lectures. I would definitely take the class again in a heartbeat.

went to at least 10 of his office hours because every time i corrected a paper to what he wanted, he found more things wrong. i brought my paper to him before it was due and asked if he could look over it before i handed it in and he told me that it looked like A material, not to change anything. then he gave me a C on the paper.

Very interesting class, he's a great professor that really makes you think about things in film that you may have never noticed before, and you learn how to critique movies too. Plays clips of films throughout class. Lectures are interesting. Really overall enjoyed this class.

Maltby is a brilliant man, but he is the hardest professor to please when it comes to academic writing. He has no idea what a conclusion is and will never explain how to correct your own conclusion. Save your GPA do not take him!!!!!!

In the beginning I did great in this class because I took good notes and sat in the front row, but I moved to the back and just slacked off at the end so I ended up with a B. If you just go to class and take adequate notes you will for sure get an A. He is also so funny and cute with his British accent!!

If you go into this class thinking you'll take coherent notes, you're wrong. The guy doesn't believe in computers & plays all his movies on his own VCR. You also aren't allowed to bring your own computer to do presentations or take notes, even in his 3 hour. The guy is a huge stickler & a tough grader. Doesn't seem to grasp how conclusions work.

HIGHLY recommended! Great class and helpful prof! Dr. Maltby knows his stuff and could double as a history teacher! He has a great British accent and if you come to class, take lots of notes, study before the test, you will be fine. Expect to learn a lot!

MISERABLE CLASS! He doesn't use the computer at all so don't expect a power point. He talks for the whole entire 1.5 hours. You just take notes the entire class and you better not miss anything. Doesn't review for anything. Your notes are what get you through this class. Only used the book about 2 times.

Only take this professor if you are perfectly fine with a insanely biased person ranting on their abnormal opinions and forcing you define words that sound like he made up.

Very interesting to listen to. He is very biased though, sometimes spouts more opinions than facts. So if you don't mind a Liberal professor then its a pretty awesome class. Quizzes and Test are very easy, straight from the lecture notes. One of my more favorite classes so far.

Class is not difficult at all. All information given is relevant to current popular culture and interesting. The best way to do good/get on his good side is take alot of notes. The text is recomended, but he inclueds text material on a select number of quizes, and only puts 2-3 questions about readings... Up to you if you want those 2-3 extra pnts.

Dr. Maltby is the best English professor I've had at WCU. He is incredibly insightful and one of the smartest people I've ever met. If you pay attention in class you'll do well and learn a lot.
