Very hard class, although one of my best subjects. Most students got a C or B-, and all were great writers. He expects alot out of you, and you can learn alot from it, but don't expect to get a good grade.

Terrible online Eng 1A class. His assignments were totally unclear and his grades seemed completely arbitrary. Many students complained about the low grades and how unhelpful he was. Got nothing out of this class, mostly due to poor teaching style. Stay away from this guy!!

Starer provokes deep thought and demands high-quality writing. While he supplies as much help as he can, two things worked against his summer class: (1) lack of class time, and (2) insufficient support for writing hw. There weren't enough examples or ideas of what constituted a good essay. He is extremely helpful, though, if you put in effort.

Very charmming college instructor whom wants you to get more than english out of his class. He is tough I wont lie but its good for us as students. Do your best and thats all he asks. He is demanding but he tells you in the beginning how to get an A and what he expects out of you time and effort. Be on time to class and with your papers.

Discussions were very thought-provoking. I'm not even a confident writer, but I went to his office hours for help on my family essay and got great straightforward answers. Overall, he knows what he wants and is willing to help you get there.

Other teachers are very impressed with the writing skills i learned in his class. and all my writing assignments are easier now. I enjoyed his class a lot. he's a smart man and i give him a hotness factor for his high integrity.

One of the most enjoyable classes i've taken in a long time. Many excellent discussions are generated in class keeping things exciting throughout the quarter. While not the easiest of graders, he is certainly fair. I've gotten an A- or above the on all papers thus far, but have seen many in the B and C range... excellent teacher highly recommended!

I took this class online, it was horrible. He took 3-4 WEEKS to return assignments, didn't keep his own lesson plans and almost never logged into the course to offer feedback or to discuss issues. Hard to get a hold of via email, very unclear with directions. I wouldn't take his class.

This man seems to be entirely incapable of thinking of an interesting essay topic. The reading was lame. I found it impossible to motivate myself to keep up with the class because it was boring me to death. His comments on assignments were somewhat helpful, but I thought his grading was unfair.

A highly intelligent man. Kind of like the comic book guy on the Simpsons. You must understand sarcasm to appreciate Starer's humor. Spells it all out from the get go- and it ain't easy or pretty learning to write well. Balanced out with exploratory journal writing. Makes you THINK! Worth the pain.

I hate this man, taking his class was the worst experience of my life. He is such a hypocrite (awful grammar and spelling but expects perfection) and a biased grader. I tried to fail his class so I could retake it (did less than half the work) and for some unknown reason, he gave me a C. Bye GPA..
