Comment:
Lectures completely irrelevant to exams; can't skip however, due to random pop quizzes. Exams are open book/internet, but were still the hardest tests I have ever taken. Read the textbook and study with friends or you will be in trouble. A few fun projects spice things up a bit. Per's accent can be tough to understand at first, but gets better.

I wasn't really happy with my major before this class, Per changed that. Also, he has the best grading scale I've ever seen at UM.

I would like to make up for my last comment (the one below this). Per is an awesome guy and is one of the best transpo engineers in the country. The only thing about the class I did not like was how the tests were irrelevant to the class. They were over different topics than he lectured about. Besides that the class was interesting.

Per knows what he is talking about, but his tests are about NOTHING he covers in lecture. The problems are ridiculously hard and irrelevant to his lectures. You could probably not go to lecture and be on par with someone that does. If you get the answer wrong on the test it is automatically 50% off. Very hard professor, I did not enjoy this class.

exams are not based on what is covered in lecture. Lecture is a bunch of slideshows with pictures and statistics. The exams are a bunch of in depth and insane problems that he made up on the spot. i was interested in traffic engineering but taking his class made me realize it is not the part of Civil Engineering that I want to pursue.

Hard to understand. I didn't like his grading policy at all. I found it to be unfair.

nice guy, accent hard to understand at first, scaled tests that really help you if you do well and don't help much if you do poorly

Very nice man. Can be unclear but if you go and talk to him, you will understand by the end of the talk. Classes are usually boring but I'm not that interested in the material. He made it tolerable though. His tests can be easy or to the point of insanity. Overall a good prof.

The way he scales is very awkward, it ends up benefitting those who already did well, and those struggling get no help. Picks apart terms papers with like a vulture, so before turning one in have it proofread by and engineering grad student.
