DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH HIM! This class was by far the worst experience I've had at Carleton. Reads his lecture notes verbatim and I swear they aren't even English. It actually seems like he's on acid or something

Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had. DO NOT take this class with Emberley unless you're prepared to basically teach yourself. He was the most unprofessional and scatterbrained prof I've ever had. He didn't even show up for the last class! Awful.

Absolutely the worst professor I've had in my three years at Carleton. Reads off a piece of paper and then loses his place consistently, the poor TAs are stuck reteaching the information in their tutorials because the prof makes zero sense. If you go to tutorial and do the readings you'll be okay, but you still won't understand a whole lot. AVOID

Honestly, the TA's are the ones that make this class bearable. He reads his notes as if somebody else wrote them. He goes on for a 30 minutes and then just ditches the notes and asks the class what they think about the readings. He's not very good at this, but if you do the readings, and press your TA for help, you should do well.

He had zero slides, did not use webct, never responded to emails and never returned the essay to students before the exam. Honestly the worst professor at Carleton, because of this class I had to drop Poli Sci as my minor!

He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable, but cannot express himself. Reads his incoherent rambling lecture notes for 2 hours straight. Forgot about the midterm and had to reschedule. He is extremely disorganized and can barely use WebCT. I will never take a class he teaches again.

He is very knowledgable about the material and very passionate about what he teaches. His lecture method is him reading word for word out of his notes which was a turn off for many people. I didn't mind it though. I still found the material interesting although a little dry at times.

The class content was interesting and he clearly has knowledge on it, but he did not communicate his knowledge to the class. He spent a lot of time talking about his trips to India. He repeated one lecture 3 times, with one or two minor changes. Not a good professor.

Signed on to be the humanities professor. Showed up for the first two lectures, which he read ESOTERICALLY from a piece of paper, and was completely unprepared. After the first two lectures, decided he didn't have TIME to teach the class and dropped, leaving us high and dry. Very selfish!

Stay Away. Weird professor who does not even like teaching. He is more interested in spending time in India. Comes off as approachable, but will find ways to avoid you. His over-grown eyebrows are very distracting

Very dull teacher. Enjoys talking about himself more than explaining the class. Often got lost in his notes, even repeated a lecture. Do not recommend.

First day of class told us that Sputnik was an american satellite. Awkward lectures, loses himself in the material constantly. Loves to talk about himself and how inspiring the things he does are. Honestly thought it was his first time teaching until i found out otherwise.

A great, inspiring professor. He's getting some hard reviews from first year students, but he is truly a very smart man, who is in equal parts nice, approachable and funny. He has a great knowledge of political theory and his enthusiasm for the subject translates well. If you can take a class by him, I highly recommend it!

Boring, I had no idea what he was talking about 95 percent of the time. He does not know how to lecture. Posted his 10 page per lectures notes completely unformatted and rambling. However, TA's were not horrible markers

Wonderful! Loved his class, loved the materials he used. On our final examine, one of the essay questions pertained to the popular John Lennon song "Imagine". A difficult marker, but very approachable and very funny. When studying for exams, all my questions were answered within the hour via email. Excellent exam review. Loved him.

Very smart and nice, however it takes WAY too long for him to reply to emails and he is not always in his office for office hours. Hard marker, hard material, its a first year class... but the material was atleast interesting.

Should not be a first year professor. The class presents complex ideas that are explained by Emberley with even more complex ideas. He does not make it easy to be interested in the class. Every class was a struggle to stay awake. That being said he is a nice guy who is willing to meet with students. Warning: prepare to philosophize!
