Comment:

Really tough grader and Murphy is a very opinionated man and not the most agreeable man but the lectures and the reading assignments were interesting. This class is good if you can appreciate the prof's unique personality and are up for a challenge

International students find him a very tough grader. So, make sure before submitting any assignment just approach "WRITING CENTER" which is located at OLD MAIN, Office Number 2674(Online appointment is required) for grammatical or sentence correction, which would surely assist y'all in getting a decent grades. His quiz tests are very easy.

Awful marker and doesn't give you the opportunity to do better, even if you put in 120% he will not help you. Exact words at one point on a C+ paper that had 3 errors on it "Was already to nice on your paper, I could have given you a much worse mark". No corrections allowed and he measures your MLA format with a ruler so don't screw up.

Overall pretty average. Assignments are few, but they really count. Good grader, makes it clear what he wants, and if you don't deliver he is always willing to give you a second chance, usually. Pretty chill guy. Talks about Donald Trump a lot.

Considering all of the other english prof's Peter is definitely your best bet. There is no final in this class and is only a few assignments. I gave the assignments a medium amount of effort with an average writing ability and got a B+.

He is a nice guy and passionate about his topic, but he does tend to give long, rather disorganized lectures and is not always clear about his expectations on assignments. That being said, he is a fair marker, will give you lots of help in his office hours, and is very open to students coming up with their own essay topics.

Classes seemed easy and boring but assignments were marked hard. Majority of the class is him talking, he doesn't use Moodle or read from a slideshow and he barely gave us any info in the very small course outline. I wish he gave more guidance on what he was expecting on essays.

Peter is an awesome guy but I wouldn't recommend to take his class. He doesn't use moodle and attendance is mandatory. His classes seem useless, as he just goes off on random tangents, and he repeats himself. He's a tough markers because he's been using the same texts for ever so he knows what he wants to see. Funny guy though!

I enjoyed him. His assignments are simple and pretty straightforward. If you participate in class and listen to his comments you can make your corrections before submitting your assignment and really improve your grade. Best part of the class: no final exam.

Nonsensical criticisms (such as assigning a narrative essay and then reading metaphors literally while marking them as "too vague"), goes off on huge tangents during lectures, constantly seems confused, half his lectures are meaningless, and he will punish you if you dare to have your own writing style. Horrible. Wish I never picked his class.

Peter is absolutely hilarious. I had him for both 110 & 111. The texts he used, in my experience, were either hit or miss. Some made me want to blow my brains out, but some were true classics and worthwhile. Assignments are usually clear, but if not, he is always around after class to discuss anything. Great guy and extremely knowledgeable.

Peter Murphy is one of the best profs at TRU. He's absolutely hilarious! Although he repeats himself a lot, I still loved his class. I feel like my writing improved significantly after this class. He marks extremely fairly and his assignments are interesting! If you have the chance to take a class with him, do it! RECOMMEND!

Great teacher if he likes you, he loved me so I had a good time in the class. 2 hours is WAY too much time for what the class is though, you don't really learn to much either than improving your own writing ability due to his comments on your papers. Speaking of which: you won't be able to read his writing. Also he repeats a lot of what he says.

He's really humorous, enthusiastic and genuinely interested in his students. He does talk a lot though, and very fast which could be hard to understand for ESL students. Solid recommendation if you have a full schedule in other courses, because he is very considerate of that.

Great sense of humor, but some of his classes got ridiculously boring. This class, honestly, could have been shortened to once a week for an hour and a half. He's a great person and is VERY SMART, but he could be more clear in his lectures in different ways..

Hes hilarious!Lets class out early almost every class. He does talk a bit fast and sometimes isn't very clear but if you ask he is more than willing to help. If you attend class and apply yourself you'll get a good grade!

Murph is one of a kind. He's the type of prof that all Universities would want. Sometimes the clarity of his assignments are a little confusing, but he is more then glad to assess any help needed, and go over everything with you. I recommend him for sure as a first year student.

I have him 2x this semester. Great guy, talks a bit fast though. He is a decent marker, but his writing is hard to read. had him several times over the years, highly recommend him. In 110 he seemed tricky but now in 4th year his classes are easy as pie.
