Comment:
Ohlin is a brilliant guy.At first his lectures seem opaque. When used to his style they're full of interesting material & provocative criticism.Saw many films, read much material that I wouldn't otherwise have encountered. Some of the theory and analytical methodology has been useful in other fields, too. DUH, he's Swedish. Ohlin? HELLO?

Comment:
I took Prof Ohlin in a previous generation; the course was Mass Media Communications, and 'he totally rocked', to use the current vernacular. In actual, standard English, Prof. Ohlin was a highly intelligent professor, with a critical faculty for the many iterations of mass media. I often think of my project, "Poetic Language in New Yorker".

Nice enough prof, but if you have to meet with him a word of advice - offer him a breath mint. And never sit in the front row.

Fantastic classes but his tests made my blood boil and was immensely difficult to deal with. This class was one of McGill's notorious bird courses,so he's on a one-man mission to change that. The multiple choice tests were RIDICULOUS and he tested us on books that hadn't even come into the bookstore.

my favorite prof at mcgill, he was so funny and entertaining that for once I didn't want to miss any of his lectures. Some people may find his marking schemes hard, but if you take higher level courses, it's most papers and such where he actually marks quite fairly.

I know he was a difficult professor but I loved his lectures---even when he would lose his train of thought and change the subject. Great class!

He's the kind of teacher who likes to have the students do badly. He makes his (multiple choice) tests insanely specific, subjective, ambiguous, and misleading. He once flat out contradicted the textbook on a quiz and defended it with ridiculous semantics

A terrible prof. Your grades will take a kick to the nuts from his maddening quizzes and ridiculous 200-multiple-choice-questions-in-3-hour final. Lectures are boring and often redundant. Avoid at all costs.

The lectures were incomprehensible, and rhetoric filled, the course content was the only thing left to salvage the class, it didn't. Based souly around the technical aspects of film it did not even attempt to show why the director used them. Avoid.

Quizzes are incredibly arbitrary and detailed, and he is dismissive of student complaints and criticism. His lectures can be extremely esoteric and unclear, and some of the movies he shows are absolute garbage.
