I was actually very excited to take this class. However, I can honestly say this class has been the worst experience out of all the classes I've taken at UCI. Not because the material is difficult, but because it is unorganized, and simply just busy work. The projects are completely irrelevant to what's discussed in class, & a useless term paper.

The class wasn't too bad, he mainly teaches concepts but sometimes rambles on and gets off-topic. There was a huge curve for the midterm and final. Would not recommend this professor if you really want to learn about databases.

Bad professor. Book was some weird Chinese book that was pretty old and difficult to understand. Most useless class I have ever taken. 3 projects that are entirely irrelevant to the course and he does not even teach you how to do them. Final project was to make your own web service that is unique . Oh come on. Worst useless class I've taken ever.

3 Projects. and 5 Homework. The second and final project are very hard. The final project require a 20 page single-space report. I just gave up. Projects are totally unrelated to the course work. In addition, I and my friends cannot understand his lectures.

he is kindof ditzy and makes a lot of dad jokes so students laugh at him a lot course load is very light, one assignment a week with one small project every 3-4 weeks not a great professor, but not a crazy tough class if you read discussion slides

This guy is awful, with heavy accent. He talks jokes that no one can understand. This person will ruin your interest in programing. Believe me, don't take his course, if you do so, it will be a horrible experience. Trust me!

I would suggest getting an early headstart into c programming if you want the A. Lectures are long and sometimes confusing. Tough graders all around, make sure you double check work on midterm and final. Text book is optional. The assignments get exponentially harder with each week. 30/30/40 grade scale assignment/midterm/final.

If I were to take this as my first programming class, I wouldn't. This teacher really affects your first impression in programming, he lectures on topics that are somewhat relevant to the assignments. At one point in class he said he didn't prepare for his lectures. It's easy to get a B in the class, but also easy to fail. Go to the TAs for help.

Professor Sheu is one of the sweetest Professors I have had at UCI. He is very good at breaking down difficult topics, and just a really nice guy in general. HIS TAs ARE AMAZING!!! GO TO TA OFFICE HOURS (ESPECIALLY FRED AHOURAI'S). By doing some extra projects with the TAs and going to Sheus office hours I was able to get an A.

Onto his assignments, the projects are EASY there are rubrics that will walk you through them. The Exams are moderately hard, with every question having 2 parts : Relational Alegebra and SQL. Though you probably won't answer all the questions he has his own curve that makes it hard to fail the course. Especially if he sees you're improving.

I took this as a second year, and it's extremely easy compared to my other year 2 classes. Class is 90% freshmen, so they are getting used to college and Sheu knows that. 30% homework! Enjoy that while it lasts freshies! But since hw is worth so much, go to lab to make it perfect. Nice TAs will pretty much tell you what to do.

Overall, not a good Professor, he is there for the students and wants them to succeed in his class! However, his lectures are a bit confusing but he tries to be at least entertaining. The class can be difficult but if you do the homework and actually use the TAs, its easy! The grading scale was top third gets an A, next third gets a B and so on.

Basic class for C language, very helpful, 1st midterm was very easy but the 2nd was very hard. High percentage on homeworks so it boost your grade. He doesn't want people to fail in his class, but sometimes he doesn't explain very clear

Lectures were difficult to follow and often went into irrelevant tangents. Homework was straight from the text and supplied solutions were obtuse. Called the midterm a stress test and said it would be difficult even for him to get more than a 75%. Avoid at all costs; something happened…
