Her grading is ridiculously hard and she is incredibly unhelpful. Her advice is unclear and she is very dismissive of any ideas. She always finds fault, cannot praise anything. Do not take a class with her. Discussions are okay, but she takes them over, and overall her grading makes the class not worth taking.

Miserable teacher who shuns creativity. Unnecessarily impossible grader... Every other professor I've had says my writing is great, while she tells me I pretty much suck. Meanwhile, she gives horrible advice, and even when you listen to it, she'll find something else to be ridiculous about. DO NOT TAKE ANY CLASS WITH HER EVER!!!

While class discussions were interesting, I never felt I was learning anything useful. She never outlined her grading policy, and her comments were contradictory on essays. I would not take another class with her, and would not suggest her as a teacher.

I don't understand the positive comments here. While Roth is a nice woman, and sometimes class discussions can be interesting, EN-211 is an awful class. She is unorangized, we never recieved a break-up of how grades were distributed, the syllabus was never followed...and when I came to her for help with my writing, her only advice was to get help

This woman treats students like**** she's horrible. I'm an English major and a decent student and she told me that I couldn't write at all (I know I'm not the best, but I've managed all As and Bs except in her class) she's smart and I probably could have learned a lot from her but who wants to after they've been insulted to their face; very hard

She is the best professor I've had here. She's so smart and helpful and takes a personal interest in her students. She is my advisor and she always has time to give me advice about the smallest things.

Every student I know thinks she's awesome. She sort of a blend of old style professor and hipster scholar. She made me a much better writer, and she'll do the same for you if you're willing to work hard.

It seems that all some people want is a teacher who can inflate their egos by telling them they are brilliant and giving them disgustingly high grades. If you get a good grade with Roth, you really earned it; its something to be proud of. And her comments are blunt to your benefit; you know exactly what she wants you to change in your writing.

I guess she's a nice person, but honestly she's never clear about the essay topics so that it's freakin impossible to know exactly what she wants and when you make an attempt and think that you did a pretty good job, you get your paper back and think jesus what did I do all this work for???? You read her comments and feel totally retarded. BAD.

Class discussions are wonderful, she's a very nice person, extremely smart. However, she has a tendency to rip you apart concerning your writing making herself quite a different person while she's grading your papers. If you are a good student looking for a good grade, look elsewhere.

This class was rediculously hard for a 200 level course. The discussions were wonderful but Roth is an incredibly hard grader and her paper assignments are completely unclear. She's blunt and rude, insisting that I needed help with my writing (which is what I'm here for) but insulting me in telling me that it was obvious that i have problems with my writing. I'm an English major and have never heard any sort of response like this. Rude woman.

Comment:
Professor Roth was damn near impossible. Her paper assignments were unrelated to class discussions and it took hours to actually figure out what she wanted a paper to be about. I had a miserable time in this class and found it completely pointless. She wasn't helpful at all either although she made herself available.
