Comment:
Dr. Allaart's class was a great experience. He introduces the material with an intuitive, visual approach before digging into the details. His classes are very structured -- he presents the goals of the course from the very beginning, and notes the "checkpoints" along the way. I would definitely recommend him!

As others on here have mentioned, Allaart's classes and homeworks are fairly straight forward. The tests are where he screws you! Nearly all of the points that I missed on the exams this semester were about math theory. I had a 90 homework but could only pass 1 exam after studying for days, ended up with a D. Harsh grading on the exams as well.

Homework is quite easy, but tests are difficult. He tests heavily on theory rather than computational stuff. So if you don't like studying and memorizing math theory, don't take him.

Allaart is by far the worst professor I have ever had. As mentioned, his class is incredibly easy until the tests are given. The only extra credit available was on the exams themselves and only worth 10 points. AVOID ALLAART.

He's a pretty good teacher. The homework is not that hard, and the quizzes come straight from the homework. But, be wary of his tests! The review that he gives does not help. Also, his final exam will be the hardest exam (even harder than the midterm). If you take his class, you will have to work hard; it is not an easy A.

He goes over pretty much all you need to know during lecture, homework is straight for the notes, and his quizzes are straight from the homework. but, you have to study hard for his tests, they're pretty difficult.

One of my favorite math professors. If you pay attention during the lectures and actually do the homework instead of copying, you're pretty much guaranteed at least a B, and a bit of studying can earn a fairly easy A.

Prof. Allaart's homework assignments range from 5 to 8 problems per class meeting and the quizzes are pretty direct from the homework. However, after not being satisfied with my Test 1 grade of a 69 I decided to study 4 hours every evening Mon-Thur before his test on Friday and sadly left with only a 74. You will learn a lot but beware hard tests!!

Avoid this professor at all costs. His tests killed my grade. My grade killed my GPA. Try as hard as you can if you end up in his class b/c "Staff" was once in the "Instructor" box in the class search, or if you cannot afford a C, D, or fail, drop before drop date. I truly tried by studying well ahead, doing extra practice, etc & it DID NOT HELP

Comment:
His homework is brief and sometimes challenging. Quizzes are the same as the practice homework problems. However, his tests are very challenging because the problems are unlike ones seen in class, in the book, or on homework. So, unless you are good at subjectively learning and applying math, try to avoid taking Allaart.

Excellent teacher, well presented proofs and ideas. Yes, he is a bit challenging, however, at this level of math, it is important. Felt like proof theory boot camp but I felt well prepared after taking this class and it is paying off for me now.

Very hard class, but if you work hard you can make an A (like I did). He was a very good teacher. Yes he didn't give us a formula sheet but who cares!?!? If you study you'll do fine

Flies through material and won't explain further. The textbook is poorly laid out and only confuses you further. We asked him for a list of formulas to study with and he refused to give us a list.

Funny, smart, and very nice. Without a doubt, the most approachable math instructor you may ever come across. Class can be boring but he's so helpful. Made stats a lot less painful than I was expecting.

Lectures were ok--the gist of the section was conveyed, but some of the details were left out. Proofs were well presented. Homework grading was relentless, and the tests were no cakewalk. Doing well in this class is a mark of a serious math student.
