Comment:
My only two complaints are the amount of reading & the length of videos assigned for 4pt assignments every week. That, & the fact that assignments are due at noon on Sundays. Southern is a big commuter school, most students like myself have jobs & its not easy fitting in 2hour videos & 3chapter readings with other classes and work.

Prof. Beals was great for 485, if you have the option to take her, definitely make sure you do. She helps you every step of the way and organized the class to make it very manageable to get everything in on time and get an A. She truly wants everyone to succeed and is very understanding. She's a good choice for both majors and non majors overall.

Dr. Beals is an amazing professor that is really passionate about History. The class is overall very easy for a Hybrid, just do the online assignments and show you care and it will be an Easy A for you! There were 3 projects: 2 are a choice of a paper or presentation and the last is a project on Genocide done with a group! TAKE THIS for TIER 3!

Expect to have reading quizzes like every week. A lot of readings to do and exams are all essays. Exams are open notes so must write something in your notebook lol. She grades OK but do not missed a single reading quiz since it is 50% of your grade.

I actually really enjoyed this class. I took it as an elective as I'm not a history major, but the subject matter was really interesting. Beals is a great teacher, very knowledgable and sweet. She grades kind of tough on her papers but overall it was an easy and enjoyable class.

I took it for a "W" course. If you are a history major then you should definitely take her. However, she is a historian and really wants you to formulate your own opinion. But you do learn a lot verbally and reading. The writing might give you a hard time. This is not the course for you if you have a hard time making an opinion in writing.

Dr. Beals is a great professor who is very enthusiastic about any topics covered in class. You are allowed to use your notes on the midterm and final but they are all essay format, so you have to actually use critical thinking skills to understand the concepts she is trying to teach you. Light reading load (2-3 hours a week).

Have to have the textbook. Lots of in class writings and 1 page papers. Take good notes she lets you use them on midterm and final. Doesn't take formal attendance but notices if youre there most of the time and likes participation. I highly recommend Dr. Beals for history majors, if your not a history major, you might want to go with someone easier

She Loves European History. Lectures could be a bit boring. She was very helpful with written assignments. This was a "W" course. I now actual like 19th century European history, I could not care about it before. I would take a course taught by her again. As a History Major i would strongly recommend taking her.

PROFESSOR BEALS IS A GOOD PROFESSOR. HOWEVER, SHE WAS ALWAYS FIVE MINUTES LATE AND IT TOOK HER TEN MINUTES TO GET CLASS GOING. GRADED WORK WAS ALL SHORT ESSAYS OUTSIDE OF CLASS. THE MATERIAL WAS INTERESTING AT TIMES, BUT HER LECTURES WERE VERY BORING. DIDN'T SEEM TO HAVE MUCH ENTHUSIASM. HOWEVER, IT WAS AN EASY "A". IF YOU LIKE BRITAIN, TAKE HER.

I had a love/hate relationship with this course. She is TOUGH, but if you can keep up and if you study hard, you get to learn a lot. Crazy tests - mostly essay form, so if you're not a natural writer, take a meathead history course instead. Ditto if you're not willing to work hard. She's a decent person and expects the best from her students.

This class is REALLY boring, but she is a nice lady, if you are going to miss class and you email her she is very understanding. While the tests are long, (usually four essays) she is a fair grader. It is a lot of writing assignments and class discussions.

She seemed like an awesome lady but I just didn't like her teaching style all that much. She was hesitent, and she admitted that she didn't know everything about the subject.Overall I feel that this her class was useless.I just wish she was on top of her game more.Go to class and pay attention, but basically everything on the tests in the book.

Very nice, knows a huge amount. Expects students to have learned outside of class. If you are expecting to be spoon-fed, don't be. Class is for discussing what you've learned. If you like the subject, you will do fine. Folks who don't enjoy history as much are better off taking someone else, particularly if they don't like to write.

She is completely terrible! She says one thing only to do another. She is not very intelligent. Makes one wonder about the school. She also has the students run the course and she just sits there and collects the paycheck! She is LAZY!!! I did not learn SQUAT! Moreover, I plan to be a professor, and I have learned NOT to be like her. Avoid h

class tends to be a bit of a bore due to the dull lectures. she has more of a historical approach as opposed to women's study, but she does try to bring people's ideas to the table during discussion. be sure to read all reading assignments because you'll be tested on them. she grades pretty fair just try to participate as much as you can.
