I took this in fall 05. This was a hard class, but I received an A on every assignment. This class helped me to become an excellent writer. If you want to improve your writing skills drastically, take her. If you want an easy class, take someone else. People that have complained about her are looking for easy A's instead of improvement.

Very distrcarted! She is fun and kind, but it is hard to ace this class! She lets ou revise papers, but is BEYOND PICKY! If your opinions don't match hers beware! She is maybe too passionate, and that may be why she may not fairly evaluate your work. But she is super nice and friendly.

this is a hard class. it kicked my butt all semester and i'm still not for sure if i have passed it. she gives waaay too much work and she's too picky about how to do it. she grades very harshly and she complicates matters. she's a nice person and funny too, but i haven't enjoyed her class at all.

SHe could never answer a question with one sentance, went and talked for 5 to 10 mins on every question. Not helpful at all. She is a writing INtensive teacher, 102 is not a Writing Intensive class but sure made it that way. She thinks her class is the only class-endless amounts of work! Dr. Duke is a nice lady [and she is funny], but this is a hard class. She gives lots of hand-outs which tend to confuse you. She's tough on grading. If you love literature, you will do well. If you don't love literature - GOOD LUCK!

I took Dr. Duke many years ago and enjoyed her in several of my English courses. Don't expect an easy time as far as reading assignments go but certainly go if you're ready for a challenge. She was enthusiastic about her material and funny and expected her class to be prepared and ready to discuss readings. I did not find her grading system at all unfair.

Whoa..I really struggled in this class. Got an A in ENG 101 and suffered in 102 horribly. The teacher is unclear about several assignments. Many people dropped the class--it made me sick. English used to be my fav. subject until now. If you take her, be warned. And get used to hearing "ummmm" a lot.

The extensive reading and the prompted journal entries are taxing, especially when you're carrying more than 12 hours. You can't study for the tests, because you only have a vague idea of what's going to be on it. In short-good class, but take it with another teacher!

Beware non-English majors; you would have a better chance understanding a Japenese poetry class taught by a mute monk. Difficult grading makes it hard to even try in this course. Good luck, and God bless if you attempt
