Ray has been researching the Assassination of JFK for years, so he is very knowledgable on the subject. He is an easy grader , loves his students, is extremely nice and kinda reminds me of my grandpa. If you don't like movies don't take his class because half of hit is watching movies. There also not a lot of homework. Midterm is a joke if u listen

Quirky but funny guy. Had him for Kennedy Assasination class, so cannot attest to what a "real" academic course with him would be like, but he is a nice guy. A little boring at times, but to be expected on such a big topic. Good human who is approachable. As far as course load for this class, not bad at all. Group project. easy MC midterm, etc.

Comment:

Prof. Johnson is a great guy, and makes editing easy (even if you aren't good at it.) He goes over exactly how to do projects before he assigns them and shows cool edited scenes from movies and talks about their techniques No tests or papers, takes attendance everyday. You won't spend all night on projects either, as they are small and manageable.

I picked up a few techniques in the class, since the COM School has switched to AVID. It's a pretty good class. He takes a long time to explain a concept that could be explained in a third of the time and it can be boring. It's an easy A. He's helpful and lenient. The class might help you decide if you want to be an editor, if nothing else

Editing the moving Image. He knows a lot, but sucks at teaching it. He'll repeat the same thing over and over and over again so he doesn't get a lot done during class. He thinks he's the be all end all of editing so if you contradict him, prepare to be shot down until it's been thoroughly proven.

He knows quite a deal about editing both in final cut and in various programs. That said he will only get to teaching a small amount of it...over and over again. He was repetitive and rambled off topic. No textbook and very few assignments, which have nothing to do with what's taught in class. You'll learn a few things, but mostly just sit there.

Had him in the summer for Kennedy Assassination Through Film...has an outrageous attendance policy where he took 20 points off my grade because I had strep throat for two days and couldn't attend class. He didn't teach a thing anyway, and just criticized all of our ideas. Worst professor I have ever had at Elon. Will always weigh down my GPA.

i didnt like this class. he had favorites, although it didnt seem to affect much, he clearly had favorites. seemed to care more about making a good show in class then teaching, i.e. he let the kids that already knew how to do certain jobs do them as opposed to teaching everyone a variety of positions

If you can get past his rambling and repetition, you'll do fine in the class. Ray is a great professor and the most supportive and helpful faculty member I've met with. If you have an idea for an out of class project go to him! He'll help out with anything!!

This class would be much more productive and useful if he ever gave us time to edit ourselves. You spend the whole class either watching him make edits and use really cool programs or listening to him lecture. He's nice and sometimes interesting but I would get so much more out of it if I could get some time to actually use the programs.

I've had Ray twice, and both classes were similar...used the same tutorials in 220 as he did in 345. Nice guy will love to help you and talk to you about editing out of class. However when abroad with him he pretty much cuts you loose, seems to almost be lost himself.

He talks so much. He also doesn't give enough time for assignments, which aren't necessarily hard, but are indeed time consuming (ie editing). As stated, everything is profound or so he thinks. Hes a legend, but don't let that fool you into thinking he is an amazing teacher. He repeats himself over and over, causing a waste of time in class.

He likes to tell you the most profound thing you will ever hear in your entire life...every single class period. Likes to talk, especially about film (even though this wasn't a cinema class). He knows a lot, it's just difficult for him to make all that knowledge coherent and organized. Would still recommend you take a class of his.

This man LOVES to hear himself talk. Everyday you will have to turn off your computer, turn off the lights, and listen to him repeat himself 3984024 times. No work really, just some projects that may be time consuming. Good class, nice man.
