I would not recommend taking Ruble. He's a nice enough guys but talks about nonsense all week and then quizzes you. His grading is absurdly hard, I understood the material and still hardly every made above a 3/5 on a quiz. Very hard to follow lectures

I recommend taking a different professor. There are weekly quizzes and he gives you a topic and you have to apply the philosophy theory you learned that day. Gives lower grades if you write a belief he does agree with. Hard to follow in lectures and does not tell you how you can pass the quizzes. Never know your grade. This is not an easy class.

Dr. Ruble's class seems to be hard at first, however if you listen to what he says in class and write it on your weekly quizzes you will do really good in the class. He writes chicken scratch on the board which is hard to read so just listen to what he says.

For Ruble, you take a quiz every week based on an article he gives you, and then applying what theory he talked about that day. Most people got a 2/5 (C) on the weekly quiz, and there's really no point in going to class until quiz day because he leaves his notes on the chalkboard. Overall, I would not recommend taking him.

Quiz's every week and they are the majority of weight for your grade. He grades based off his opinion so if your is different then you have basically already failed. Final paper is long and single spaced.

Gives a quiz every week on a news article and you have to apply a theory to it. He grades the quizzes on a scale of 1-5. Even though he assigns readings every week, the quizzes may not always be on the readings. Be prepared to work for your grade. No final exam, just a final paper.

Ended up dropping this class. He gives test once a week and they are the type of tests where you read an article and apply the theory taught during the week to the article. Sounds easy right?! WRONG. Everything he talks about the week before is irrelevant, and he doesnt teach out of the book so reading is pointless, and he grades on a (1-5) scale.

Basically you take a quiz every week about the lectures in class. If you do not address vocabulary or ideas in the way he wants you to he will be very critical. Reading the book helps a lot with recalling vocab for a better grade. Talk to him during office hours and that extra attempt to care about the material and your grade helps a lot.

Impossible to make an A in this class. His grading criteria is impossible to understand. Quizzes every week and they are completely irrelevant to the material discussed in class. All opinion based and you better hope you have the same opinion as him. Would not recommend this class if you stress easily. All open ended questions and only one exam

Please please please do not take Ruble. Worst professor I've ever had in college. Quizzes every week and if he doesn't agree with your opinion you won't pass. Most miserable class I've ever taken.

Of all of the professors and courses I have taken at APP, Prof. Ruble and his Critical Thinking class is the one I most remember. I am not a Philosophy major, but Prof. Ruble made the course interesting and even humorous. I highly recommend his class!

Don't take any class by Ruble. He lectures every day and is very boring. He does not teach you anything. He will lecture and then ask an opinion question about ethics to write about and pass up. If he doesn't agree with your opinion he'll give you a 1 or 2 out of 5. You never know what grade you have in this class.

It seems like an easy class, but it's really the exact opposite. Quizzes every week and he'll give you a poor grade, but won't tell you why or what you have to do to make it better. The only reason I didn't drop was because I didn't want to take it again. I do not recommend at all.

WORST PROFESSOR AT ASU. DO NOT TAKE. Countless people have dropped his classes. Gives pop quizzes, 60% of your grade. Has nothing to do with "lectures" (more like rants) or the readings. DO NOT TAKE SAVE YOUR TIME AND GRADES

I dropped his class because he made no sense, gave weekly quizzes that were impossible, and i was not learning anything from the class. He is not a professor that is willing to work with you. Wish I had known not to take his philosophy class.

Ancient Philosophy with Dr. Ruble was one of the highlights of my undergraduate career. His lectures were all very entertaining and informative. Taking his class made me regret not doing my minor in philosophy. The only downside is that classes are held in his office and many of the philosophy majors apparently do not believe in deodorant.

Do Not Take This Class! It is incomprehensible and I am still confused about if I learned anything from it. There are lots of pop quizzes that make no sense what so ever. The final was a huge research paper and not worth it. Do what you can to avoid this class.

DO NOT TAKE. This is an Ancient Philosophy class and he spent more time talking about current events. Lecture is VERY hard to follow, nothing of substance, held in his office which is TINY (with 20-some students crammed in) and FREEZING all year round. Avoid if at all possible. Unless you're a born philosopher, then you don't have to do any work.
