Comment:

Dr. Flietstra is a very smart woman, and it shows through her lectures. If you are a nursing student, I would highly recommend her because her nursing students are much more prepared than the rest. She can seem intimidating, but she is a very caring lady who really wants to see her students thrive. Pay attention to detail and you will do very well.

Comment:

This professor knows what she is talking about. She is very knowledgeable and teaches very well. I learned a lot, but I had a hard time with her testing. There are 3 quizes a week plus a test every other. In addition, they are free response. She will prepare you will but if you are looking for an A, I would not take her.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Most assignments you spend 5+ hours on and receive minimal credit due to minor mistakes. For example if you use automatic numbering on Microsoft word, she takes off points because they are not 1 inch margins. Tests are 100% written with definitions that need to be correct word for word. No multiple choice etc

She is definitely a hard professor, but she will prepare you for your future career! She is also really knowledgeable, cant complain that a professor cares that we actually learn (even though you will want to at times)

Ive only had her a week and she is already the most strict teacher Ive ever had. You have to know her definitions for short answers word for word or she counts you off. Im about to drop nursing because of her and all the other sections are full. She doesnt have scheduled office hours you have to make special appointments. You need to studyyyyyy

Great prof!! She is tough but she will prepare you. Pay attention to her lectures and study, tests are important in her class. Quizzes every Friday and if not then there's a test.

Flietstra makes the class much more difficult than it needs to be. You learn a lot if you put in the effort, but it is likely that she will bring your GPA down altogether. She is the toughest grader I have come across and is very strict and intimidating. In comparison to the other A&P classes at Loma, Flietstra's is 10x harder.

She's a harder professor but the pay off is worth it. We covered more than other bio130 classes and that will show later on. Homework online every Monday/Wednesday isn't bad at all, quizzes or exams every Friday. You have to study or you wont pass. She teaches her students well and I'm taking again for BIO140

Comment:

Flietstra is a great teacher and forces you to learn the material. It is an extremely tough class, but it is do-able. Her tests are based off of her lectures, and she is very picky when it comes to grading short answers. She is by far the hardest A&P teacher at PLNU.

The people who aren't doing well in the class only do so because they do not study well enough. I know that if I don't study, I most likely will not be able to give her the answers she's looking for. She's super nice, knows what she's talking about, and is more than happy to help you understand. Lots of quizzes but the more points the better

She is great. It's not an easy class, but her expectations are clear from the beginning. If you take notes during lecture and study them, you can get A's on the exams and in the class. She seems intimidating, but she is super nice and really knows her stuff, and is more than happy to explain concepts further in class or in office hours.

AMAZING PROF! Honestly, dont let the rumors scare you. She Is a tough grader but she does it because she wants you to know the information. I missed two days worth of class and yes it was reflected on the exam. However, every 3rd quiz is an extra credit quiz, you dont have much work except study. She give you the note packet prefilled... easy B

Fietstra is probably the best teacher I've ever had. With that being said, the class was extremely difficult. Her grading is insanely strict, lots of short answers that you need to know practically word for word. If you don't put it 3 hours for every one hour of class, you will be lucky to get a solid B. Don't take her unless you're a smart cat.

Flietstra is probably the toughest professor I've taken here. However, I definitely understood the material way more than those who had Elson or Sawyer. She is super meticulous with your short answers and a lot of your quizzes are based on that. Ask her to explain processes and WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN!

This was a very difficult class. The multiple choice sections of the exam killed me. Although the short answer questions were predictable and repeated from quizzed to tests. She is very intimidating, but one on one she is not as bad as she seemed. She is sensitive to detail so there is a TON of memorization. She explains the content well.

This class only seems more challenging from the comments, but honestly SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER OUT THERE! I mean if you're looking for an easy A then this class isn't for you. She makes you earn your grade, but it is NOT impossible. She makes her expectations very clear.
