I took his bacterial genetics class. He is a tough 'old school' teacher. He expects students to understand concepts and be able to explain them before giving them the grades. I thought his teaching style and class were great, and I learned so much vital information for my progress as a student of molecular biology.

Alright let me break this down: he uses a chalk board (no lecture slides), his "summary notes" are utterly useless to study from, he has a fairly heavy asian accent, and his class was at 8:30am. avg of both midterms was like 54. missing this class is absolutely not an option. textbook is almost useless as a study guide. yaaaa don't take this class.

So he may not be the BEST prof ,I still highly enjoyed his class. He is difficult to understand sometimes but he really does break down concepts for you and tries to convey the material. DONT JUST MEMORIZE, try and understand the material as it will provide a much useful tool then just memorization. Also, go to Kim if you have questions, she rocks!

It will initially apppear as though he is testing you on material you haven't learned. However, if you understood the material he taught, you'll recognize that you have the toolset to answer his questions. Forces you to understand. If you find that your only strategy is to memorize old tests and you still do poorly you missed the point.

based on reviews, it seems he's much better at teaching intro. courses b/c i thought he was great. Accent can make it hard to catch things sometimes, but he'll always repeat anything you ask. ESSENTIAL to attend lectures -- his diagrams and explanations far exceed anything available in the textbook/workbook. Nice guy with a sense of humor! :)

I don't understand where some people are coming from when they say he only wants you to memorize and regurgitate, they clearly just didn't get it. Great Prof, probably one of the smartest at the school, he is able to unfold the material in an understandable way...you have to try to understand it!!!

A difficult prof... hes the gatekeeper for all micro students! Beware. The lab component was good, but not terribly helpful with exam mat'l. His notes are very organized, but he doesn't want regurgitaion... understanding is KEY.
