As I sit in class I write this review. I have never been so sad in my life. Prins had to take 2 weeks in due to policy changes and since then the class has been in a state of distress. He talks with his eyes closed and disrespect the class often. If you have a class with him DROP OUT OF THE CLASS AND SAVE YOURSELF. Not worth the trauma mannnnn.

Comment:

Prins is not a very competent pianist. He has to repeat things a few times. His tests do follow exactly with what's going on in the class. However, he is quick to anger and it's really off putting. I don't feel comfortable in this class. I haven't learned much, if you're into classical music theory then take this, but if not then I'd avoid it.

DO NOT TAKE THEORY I WITH PRINS! He yells and insults you all class but will quickly go back to a nice old gentleman. Haven't learned a single thing in his class. Thank god for Google. He plays piano terribly and goes off on tangents about when he was our age in the 1400s. Should have retired a long time go. Worst class Ive ever taken. Period.

He's a nice person, but he yells to much and it scary. His piano playing is horible. You can't understand what he's trying to teach you and if you try to ask a question, he screams. If this class were not mandatory to graduate, I Would have dropped it like a hot potato.

He can go from laughing to yelling in one minute... kind of scary. He is a really nice guy he just does not like people not listening to him. Easy A if you show up and know how to play your instrument at all.

This course was without a doubt one of the worst courses I have ever taken in my life. When Rene Prins wasn't insulting our intelligence, he was either playing the piano poorly (and then grading you on how well you copied his mistakes), or drifting off on some tangent. Furthermore, he blatantly disregards some of the main aspects of Music Theory.

Professor Prins is a bit rough around the edges. He is a good man where it counts, but the way he dictates his course is less than desirable. He should really retire. Dictation with his horrid piano skills makes it frustrating, and he can be insulting to people. His concert band class isn't bad, but his theory class leaves plenty to be desired.

He is terrible. One of the most incompetent professors I've ever had. He can't play the piano, and constantly makes mistakes when you try dictation. He never grades anything, so I never know my grade. The class is only registered for 1 hour 15 min, but he keeps us for 2 hours. Pretty sure that's against school code. He made me want to change major.

After four semesters of music theory with him, I feel I'm entitled to say something. Prins knows his stuff, and if you study under him, he expects you to learn it. If you work hard you will get a lot out of his classes. IF YOU WORK HARD. The difficulties of his courses were more than made up for by the amount of music theory I learned.

Prins has a very precise teaching method. He feels his way is the only way and he will stick by it till the grave. Fortunatly for him, his lesson plan is flawless and if you listen to what he happens to be saying (aside from his occasional 'flip-out') you will be a theory wizard in no time. Oh yeah, and he's crazy... like, legitimently.

Mr. Prins will not only insult you, he will call you stupid to your face and think nothing of it. The only good thing about his class is how easy it is. If you are there you get an A. Or if you don't want to go, just e-mail him and tell him your sick and it counts as an excused absence.
