Real world experience in industry, primarily GE, enhances lectures. Does not grade strictly on the answer but how you developed and solved the problem. Found his lecture material to be helpful on the job.

This was a course of advanced fracture mechanics. By far the most difficult course mathematically as you move into nonlinear. What makes the theory easy to digest is his discussions about practical application and modeling techniques. Most books will be very dense so get several books to cross reference and decipher the material

This professor will guide the course through the required literature. However, your ability to do well will not be based on your ability to memorize or apply equations. To be truly successful in his course I found that challenging the literature and exploring application, why certain theory works and doesn't work in industry is what will show ski

one of more difficult concepts in engineering is fracture mechanics. very very difficult to understand but Dippery was able to provide excellent guidance in where to look for applicable text.

The course was excellent, understood the theory in a practicle way. The mathematics and analysis approach were very straight forward and could apply this class in the field and other classes right away.

The course started tough but class notes and lectures helped. The most valiable tool was just talking to the professor, very helpful in making the theory practicle. excellent class.

Like everyone else has said, he just tells stories about GE a lot. I did not learn any solids, but I passed the class? Now I'm scrambling to learn it for my other classes on my own.

Took because everyone said Dippery was easy and you hardly do any work. He talked the entire 2 hour class period about his awesome professors he had and when he worked at GE but never teaches you anything and expects you to know it on the tests. Gave almost everyone a D. Do not take!

Story time with Grandpa Dippery was what we called the class. We learned a great deal more about his time with GE than we did about designing machines. Be ready to teach yourself to do the projects, and watch out for very cryptic instructions. No final though.

I had him for the 2hr course and this class with him is almost worthless. You won't learn anything, and he'll talk about working at GE all the time. Don't take him if you want to learn anything or be prepared to teach yourself if you do take him. His tests are like the sample problems in the book.

A lousy professor. He doesn't teach anything, he just sits in front of the class an rambles on about random stories. He worked 2 examples in class all semester. It took us two weeks to review the previous class. You will get a good grade in this class, but you won't learn anything. Do not take him if you want to learn anything.

He's a great teacher. At first I didn't think I'd like him, but he gives you a chance to make up for poor tests. Be in class, try to pay attention, and don't get offended by what he says, he likes to joke and have real conversations with the students. The class may seem hard at first (specially if you haven't had phys1) but it gets easier

Very helpful and clear, especially out of class. Tests are respectably difficult, but predictable. Great as a thesis advisor as well.

Mach.Des.I - Dippery is awesome. His lectures are dry and boring. But show up, take extra credit "attendence quizzes", do assignments and get a 90 easy. He's actually a pretty funny guy, talk to him.

Very easy grader. Go to class, gives extra credit when a couple of people skip. His tests are like his examples, so pay attention it is hard to though. Also, all tests are open book and open note.

Very easy class, but don't let that make you not pay attention! His tests are just like the class examples, and are easy. Watch out on that final, though -- a couple curveballs here.
