Prof Ely is very clear and goes at a slow pace, good b/c there was less info on the tests. tests are easy/fair/straightforward, textbook completely useless - never used it. do have to study a little for tests. Ely is helpful when you approach him, empirical (good!) and def knows his stuff. def recommend this class for an easy A

Very boring and lifeless. Tests are very difficult and extremely detail oriented. Do not take this class if you are not a psych minor-- all it was good for was taking naps.

Professor Ely is an extremely knowledgeable teacher who has a deep understanding of the workings behind personality psychology. He provides a lot of empirical data to support the theories, making the topic even more interesting to learn about. The exam questions come mostly from his slides, but the book's helpful as a supplement. Amazing professor!

Prof. Ely knows his material extremely well. He puts a lot of effort into his lectures, and it shows. Very intelligent man. Textbook not used at all in the course. Necessary to know his lecture slides VERY well for his sometimes difficult tests. Lectures are interesting and often funny. Great class overall

Professor Ely taught with a monotone which made learning the material hard and led to falling asleep. I was in the honors sections and I liked the small discussions where we saw movies and talked. He goes through a lot of information in the lectures which makes tests hard. He didn't grade papers that strictly but looks for interesting stories.

The material is fascinating, and Professor Ely definitely knows his stuff. I enjoyed lecture (and also enjoyed that attendance was not mandatory at said lecture). I did not enjoy the tricky/vague wording on his exams (but aside from that, they're really not that difficult). Overall, I'd recommend both Ely and the course.

He's a great professor! Very nice and funny. He is very clear about the material taught in class. The textbook is just a reference if you need it but I did not get it. There are two midterms, one final, and a final paper. Exams are not too bad if you go to lectures and understand the material.

How to pass Ely's class: Do not buy the textbook. Go to discussion and pay attention (attendance mandatory). Print out all of the lecture slides from Course Info. One week prior to test, begin committing lecture slides to memory. Be sure to commit every single bit of information to memory.

He's a great lecturer. Very funny. Very clear and to the point. Knows his stuff. I looked forward to going to his class. Uses a lot of examples from his own research and his own life. Has a great sense of humor. I recommend going to class, even though you don't have to because all of his slides are online. 3 exams (non-cumulative) and a final paper

ugh, monotonous. boring. his exams are impossible, they test the most obscure info. he just read off the slides. and his study guides were just a list of the titles of each slide. pretty bad.

Please, do not buy the textbook, you don't use it. Ely is a nice, nice person and can be a very good lecturer. He's brilliant and makes some of the information easy to understand, but then there are also times when you can't really comprehend it at all. Exams switch from easy to hard and no matter how much you study, you may not do well.

Great professor! He never took attendance but I went to every class. He is an hilarious lecturer, puts interesting things on the slides, and gives study guides for exams. If you aren't a psych major you may be bored. Don't bother buying the book. I disagree completely with the two ratings below me. Ely is great and knows his stuff.
