Good enough prof, but this course was incredibly difficult for me. Don't take zool250 if you're just looking for a spare credit with a lab component unless this is your kinda stuff. Lots of memorization and the lab final was brutal. Written components of lecture exams based on diagrams only covered in lecture so attendance is crucial.

Best prof, and best course that I've ever taken. His lectures are extremely interesting, with lots of drawing of organisms. His tests are quite hard; very careful reading of questions is required. The lab has been awesome (lots of live animals) and easy. He is retiring after this semester, but if he weren't, I would strongly recommend.

Dr. Palmer is a nice gentleman and passionate about the course. But the multiple choice questions are HARD. A:, B:, C: obsurd fact, D: All of the above, E: AB but not C. Don't spell things incorrectly on tests, you will get marked wrong. The course was enjoyable and he made it more enjoyable. Memorize everything. Notes will be purchased, use them.

Awesome prof. He has a notes package that comes with the lab manual that has all the notes in it. You have to show up for class, since he does drawings that are on exams, but he has such a passion for inverts that he makes lectures interesting. Multiple choice are hard, but if you study and memorize everything you will be fine!

Highly recommended prof! He's amazing and has a passion for invertebrates. Lots of drawings but they are really helpful. Notes are straightforward. Terms tested are underlined in his note package. Labs aren't so bad and TAs are also very enthusiastic and helpful. MC is tricky but as long as you study, you'll be fine.

Really interesting class. LOTS of detail. MC were all "A,B,C, Allofabove, and AB but not C". So MC was difficult since you had a ton to memorize. Need to go to class since drawings are tested. Labs are very practical-need to recognize specimens. Textbook helps, but not essential. Okay course if you can memorize EVERYTHING, otherwise don't take it.

Best prof I ever had. Super clear, super organised. Don't skip class; he tests on the drawings he does every lecture. Really friendly, easy to talk to, and helpful outside of class. Lab tests are kinda tough. There's a lot of info to know, but exams are very fair.

Dr. Palmer is one of the greatest profs I have ever had! Although I loved the course content it would greatly surprise me for someone to dislike the class even if they didn't like invertebrates because of Dr. Palmer's humor and teaching methods, 1 midterm is also a nice change for science class

I didn't know ANYTHING about invertebrates before the class and now I am searching schedules for any other classes I can take. He makes the material really interesting because he knows what he's talking about. It's not an easy course but it's quite interesting

I was in a couple of his classes over 20 years ago now, and to this day I remember him fondly although I can't remember the course numbers. He was enthusiastic, knowledgeable and engaging. I am glad to see that he still brings it to this day! An outstanding professor.

He made the class so interesting, I had no interest in inverts til this class. Material is time demanding but read the textbook and his notes are really good. The lab is also really helpful and the T.A's are awesome. His research is also really cool, and he is super knowledgeable on the subject.

Honestly, if you ever have to take a class on invertebrates, take it with Richard Palmer He is easily the most engaging professor I have had yet. Participate in labs because it really helps with the lecture. While the exams are tough, the class curves nicely so as long as you studied and went to class, you'll be fine!

Easily the best prof I've had at the U of A. Wasn't interested in invertebrates until I took his class. Great class if you're visual, because he uses lots of diagrams. Text book isn't necessary but helps a lot with labs and very interesting to read. Provides ppt presentations with interesting photos and facts. Start annotated bibliography early!

Dr Palmer is really knows his stuff, and what's more, he loves the material and wants to share this with his students. There is a ton of material, and his tests tend to be very specific, but it isn't unmanageable. The written assignment was also very interesting.

Dr. Palmer was a really nice and approachable guy and I thoroughly enjoyed his class. However, his exams were BRUTAL and I found the multiple choice to be not totally fair. I did very well in labs and on lab exams and I found the class exams extremely difficult. Overall, a really good prof though.

I've now been expose to a fair few professors and Dr. Palmer is my favorite and the best of all that I've had. He really loves his subject and wants his students to have an appreciation for it as well, he therefore makes great, concise, purchasable notes, explains things in detail and is overall, enthusiastic and helpful.
