Sayles is a really good professor. Comes in, does lots of examples, clearly going through the steps/process. Exam and quiz problems are similar to in class examples. Definitely would take with him again

One of the best professors I have had. Hand writing is very legible, very organized lectures and a very knowledgeable guy. I recommend copying down all the problems down he does on the board since they are very similar to the quizzes and tests. Even though the homework is optional do it because it helps immensely.

When you dont want to leave class because he makes Thermo so interesting thats the sign of a great professor. If you do the homework and study you will do great. He goes over examples and makes the subject come alive. He is by far the best Professor I have had so far!

The grading for the class consisted of quizzes and tests. The quizzes were always take home, so collaboration was emphasized. The format for the tests mirrored the format for the quizzes, making studying a matter of running through practice problems in the book, but also required thorough knowledge of the notes from class, which were essential.

Solid professor. Have taken 4 classes with him and every one was great. Clear, concise, and easy to understand. If you pay attention in class you'll know what to expect on his exams and will do fine.

Very dry professor. Don't ask stupid questions, he doesn't like them. Try to do the assigned homework, or at least the drawings of the problems so you can keep up. Fast paced.

Teaches you what you need to know, but you'd better pay attention. Can seem dry, but definitely is interested in the subject and the students. Do the optional homework. If you ask a question, it better be a good one.

A little boring to have at 8 in the morning with his monotone voice and corny jokes. However he was a very good professor who explained every problem step by step. Has quirks that make the class fun like his comments about sports and his funny stare that he always gives

Great professor if you enjoy long lectures. I don't like lectures, so I didn't do very well with him. There are better ways of teaching, but if lecture are your thing... Grades extremely fairly.

Very nice guy and very clear. I liked him more and more as the semester went by. The class was very boring but I really don't think that was his fault. Wicked Maine accent and loves the Red Sox. Looking forward to having him next semester for fluids.

Hopeless in teaching fluids. Makes subject boring. He is a decent teacher but I think the subject is too intellectual for him.

Sayles is pretty cool. His jokes are funny and he is very easy to follow. Tests and quizzes however are not open book (you get one notecard) which makes things a bit hard, but overall a good professor.

Awesome professor. A lot of people find him boring but if you look he has a great sense of humor. He really tries but the material can be dull. I mean, trying to teach torsion at 8am isnt the easiest thing in the world. Do the hw, use his answer sheets, go to class and work you ass off to get an A and to understand.

This was a good class, really easy, good text, no homrwork, decent classes, and a good teacher. Only downside is that the entire grade was based on 4 tests of 3 problems each. Oh well, great prof. if you're good at test taking and like to skip class.
