Comment:
If you take this class, do the extra credit. He gives little guidance on what will be on exams, reading materials seem random and unrelated to course content. Professor Zamoff is a kind and passionate sociologist who I respect greatly. If you are looking for an easy A elective this is not it. Also, the class relies on the sociology of sports, ew.

Very interesting lectures and very passionate and caring man. Although, I did find the exams to be more difficult than expected. The final was difficult and ended up bringing my grade down significantly. He does offer extra credit though so you should definitely do it all in case you don't do well on the final!

It's an easy A if you do at least 2 of the extra credits, take good notes in class, read and take notes on the book and packet of hand outs, and go to class. Extremely boring, and questions on exams were oddly specific. I don't think the book or packet of handouts contributed to my sociological knowledge.

Professor Zamoff is very passionate about Jackie Robinson. This course involves a decent amount of reading. Pay attention to the lectures and contact Professor Zamoff outside of class with questions to boost your participation and you should do fine.

As a non-native speaker, the course is difficult. There is no power point, no black board content, there is a book which is off the topic but it will appear the test in many random questions. We do have extra credit but rarely helped to me. Great teacher, but just too hard. Do not take the course if you want a high gpa.

Professor Zamoff is very passionate about what he teaches. You need to attend lecture and take notes because he does not use powerpoint or upload anything from lecture online. He does not use blackboard. If you go to class, read the textbook, and do the extra credit you will not have a hard time getting a good grade.

Professor Zamoff is quite a character. His background and passion make him a great lecturer. I really enjoyed his engaging discussions that he keeps relevant with today's events. Tests aren't crazy as long as you do the readings. He's a rather fair grader. Take this class or any class with Professor Zamoff.

Professor Zamoff is an amazing teacher. There are only three tests throughout the year, but he gives an amazing extra credit project. In that extra credit project, you can bump your grade up by a whole letter grade. He is very smart, loves the material he teaches and knows it inside and out. You will have to work, but the class is what you make it

Zamoff is a super nice guy and extraordinarily passionate about sociology and sports. However, lectures are WAY too redundant and you discuss the same topics every class using the same examples. Two non-cumulative exams that are based 90% on questions from the reading and 1 paper. Huge extra credit opportunities too.

Boring lectures but you HAVE to take notes that are on the board and important things he says. Theres a big thick handout and a borrrrrrrring textbook you have to read for all 3 exams. No final. Really boring reading and need to stay awake in class to take good notes.

I have never worked so hard, learned so little, and been so frustrated as when I took Zamoff's class. For an introductory Sociology course the grading is indefensibly harsh and tests are on the most irrelevant minutia. I worked my self to death just to pull off a B plus. Zamoff is the only prof that I go out of my way to tell people not to take.

Grades the tests tough but there is a big curve at the end of the class. I got a 70 on one test and low B's on the other two and ended up with an A in the class. Go to class and pay attention and do the extra credit. I didn't even own the textbook and I was fine (i just bought the packet of handouts). Took cause it was required but learned a lot

His lectures are hard to follow. He often goes off on tangents. The lack of Blackboard and Powerpoints make it a difficult class to follow. He can be funny occasionally, but is often arrogant. The readings do not relate to lectures at all, but are on tests. His grading curve means you never know what you have in the class.

His lectures seemed more like rants and a chance for him to hear himself speak. There were no powerpoints, he's not on Blackboard, and the textbook is dry and doesn't relate to class material. 70% of the time I caught myself thinking how what he said even related to sociology. You just write down what you think may be important & hope for thebest

Course was interesting though I took it first semester as a freshmen and I had some trouble adjusting at the beginning, though it DOES get better. Just take good notes during class and read the book (really boring) and you should do fine. Lectures were interesting but I was always so tired I would knock out sometimes. Th extra credit helped a lot.

I was definitely disappointed with this class. The class is rough at 8 a.m. on a monday morning, and the lectures are hard to follow. Zamoff lectures without any kind of visual aide, and they are long, dull, and at times off topic. The textbook is boring as well, and is difficult to connect to class material. Test are hard, so do the EC if you can.

Just awful. Long, droning lectures, unclear speaking tone and little to no organization. Attendance doesn't get a positive grade- he just docks from your final grade if you miss too much. Worst part of his class is that he uses no outlines or powerpoints to clearly map out his lectures, so notetaking is hell.
