Comment:

Definitely one of the good profs out there. He likes it when students participate in class,and he even gave me extra marks for asking questions. As long as you know your stuff before the lab and get all the procedures done, he'll let you leave early. Very helpful too!

Comment:

He was always helpful in labs, always ready to answer questions. Gave demos at the start so we knew what to do, not that it was difficult. Sometimes if you asked him conceptual questions, he would have an almost condescending tone, but I don't think it is intentional. He will nail you for sig figs, cuz it is Chem and that's a big thing apparently.

Rick prepared us very well for the lab final, he was good in class - very helpful. If you come prepared you will do fine. Having Rick as a lab instructor boosted my chem lecture mark because of my experimental understanding.

I seriously walk out of every chem lab depressed and/or just thankful that I do not have to be there for another week. I'm attributing this to Rick's hard ass personality, his perfectionism, and last but not least his overall grumpy attitude. I really want to like him as a person, but he just makes it TOO hard for me to do so.

He's not the most perfect teacher in the world. His style of teaching can be confusing and he not always an efffective helper. It's as if he wants to belittle us:when we ask him questions, he would throw back our questions and make us more confused. Maybe he's trying to challenge us, but his method is not very efficient in helping the students.

He is NOT good at helping and can be an ass at times. Whenever I ask him a question, all he does is throw the QUESTION BACK and confuses me even more. It seems like he doesn't know the answer so he's asking US for it, or he's just being lazy. I mean we're paying thousands of dollars for him to teach us, not the other way around.

Very helpful in lab help, but..... check your reports carefully because he tends to make mistakes on marking sig digs. Don't try to approach him with his mistakes because he thinks that he is never wrong. I suggest asking he questions in lab help but not having him as a lab instructor.

Very LONG pre-lab lectures, but he's very nice. What out for your significant digits. They'll kill you on every single lab report. He's very helpful, but marks very very hard! Go to lab help. It will set you free! A lab that would have taken me about 2 hrs was done in about 45min in lab help!

He's really good if you need extra help out of class and takes time to help students. If you ask a question it can get frustrating because he'll never give you a straight answer, which can either help you or make it harder. I really liked being in his lab overall, he really wants students to succeed

Pre lab lectures are painfully long and too drawn out. You WILL be there for the full 3 hours. Blindly adheres to the Chem dept's anal policies but I suppose that's not all his fault. Chem labs suck any way you slice 'em.
