Rivers is a hard teacher. he expects a lot from the students. He brings up a lot of interesting points and really does make a class interesting (IF YOU LIKE BIO!!). That being said... sorry to be blunt guys... but if you suck at writing, dont take this class. Rivers gave me an A because i worked my butt off. do the same and you can get an A

He's such a nice old man, but god was this class rough. Take a different second writing class. He won't fail anyone, but unless you're a freak writing prodigy, 498 will probably knock a few points off your GPA.

This class was not bad. I heard horrible things going into it and it was not bad at all. He gives the opportunity to re-submit your papers by the end of your semester for regrading. He is very specific on what he wants. As long as you don't write with alot of extra fluff he is happy. Wrote all my papers the night before and got high B's.

Absolutely terrible. Never once did he give the class a clear explanation for what he wanted for the writing assigments, and then proceded to grade harshly when you didn't write what he wanted. It's not just me, nobody in the class has any idea what he wants. Effing terrible, take something else for your second writing requirement.

i thought that i would be fine in this class because i'm a good writer. i didn't realize his grading standards would be so arbitrary. the content of your writing is irrelevant. he only cares about organization, but he never teaches it and expects you to read his mind. i have never been so stressed out about a class before. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Smart guy and expects you to be just as smart. He is a tough grader. Your style of writing has to match his or he will rip your paper apart so pay attn in the beginning and his notes about what he wants. If you try hard you can do ok.

Singleton isn't a bad guy, and knows his stuff, but is a very hard grader. I wouldn't tell a freshman or sophomore to ever take this call because they will most likely fail. But here's the thing. I'm one of those people who writes my paper the night before and I still got a B so with work, anyone can pass.

Dr. Singleton is a smart guy. The problem is he's a biology teacher that thinks he's teaching an English Ph.D class. If your writing style conflicts with his you're in deep trouble. The class can be interesting, but the pain and problems caused by his horrible grading make it easy to tell people to never take a class with him.

Dr. Singleton knows a lot about science. He is able to recall specific quotes from books that were written back in the 1970s! He's very intelligent and expects good papers. If you have good ideas and write well, this class should be no trouble at all.
