He is a good prof. You will understand everything in class. However, his lectures are easy. No thinking required. Just substitute variables into the equation and find the answer. The textbook is even worse. Kindergarten textbook. Quiz and exam are so different from the lectures. EXAM you may find that some questions that you don't even understand.

Comments are exactly accurate. I had this guy at UCF in Florida. Great guy, helpful, knowledgeable. We had one project and a final, little to no help with what was wanted, ended up with a B-, dont think any of the 6 of us in the class got an A. Put in a lot of effort on the project, questions on final were applied ideas from speakers presentations.

He's an interesting prof, really wants you to understand and find the course useful. Sometimes makes fun of students..beware, no info on final exam, likes to give a question that throws u off for the final exam, such as a bug question (i.e. exponential growth rate)

He is good at teaching, but LAZY at quizes. He simply pasted those SOA actuarial exam questions onto the weekly quizes, which was figured out when I was preparing for the actual SOA exams. Final exam brutal!dropped 20% for that, although someone couldn't stand that and rang the fire alarm.

Great lectures on CD! No need to read a single page of the text book - the exam material is way easier than the assignments, and the assignments are hardly that challenging. Bottom line - don't read the text - pull an allnighter before the exam and listen to his lectures for understanding - you won't be disappointed...

This is a great DE class - very well organized lectures, and follows the text closely. Prof Brown is also very quick to reply to any questions about the course, and very helpful as well. Definitely focus on Ch 3 and Ch 4 as someone suggested, you have to have the processes down pat.

For a DE course, this was great. Lectures were clear and pretty interesting--follows textbook closely. Assignments and final exam were fair. Recommendeded, but make sure you keep up--the material is pretty easy but difficult to pick up.
