Good professor, enthusiastic in his teaching. The quizzes he give are mostly fair. However, his final was hard. He asked the students for questions they wanted as the essay prompt on the exam, and said he would put some of them on the exam. None of them was on it. He said the bonus question would be of explaining an ancient painting. It wasnt.

Dr. Cousland is extremely approachable and knowledgeable about his subject matter. Although his mode of presentation can seem unnecessarily simple at times (i.e. references to pop culture), his level of depth is at times astonishing. To get the most out lf his course, go to office hours!

Hes a sick prof, super cute and funny ( in a Santa clause kind of way). Quiz's are fair if you've studied. Replies to emails a bit late but cant have everything right?

Professor Cousland seems so nice. The day after the American Elections he bought everyone in my lecture period "consolation timbits". That was probably the sweetest and funniest thing I've ever seen a prof do. Lots of reading and sometimes the lectures are not too interesting but its really not a bad course.

For a religion class where there are often strong opposing views, he was fair and respectful to everyone's opinions. He encouraged thorough, logical, and independent thought and feedback. Enjoyed the class!

Amazing personality, very kind and obviously passionate about the subject. However I would say that I was almost completely lost during every lecture, and his lack of PowerPoint skills made things less clear. If you're a literature student you will probably be fine, but if not be prepared to not understand a thing and sparknote everything possible.

Classes are really long, interesting content. Lot of material to learn, don't bother going over the power points it will not get you an A just make detailed notes and learn them. Many long boring videos... class sleeping. Professor seems ok but he talks a lot in class, bring coffee!

Pretty laid back class however, you need to listen to his lectures in order to get info that may be tested, but he follows the textbook for questions. Standard testing: choose a set number of definitions and define; and 2 essay questions. Though, expect little improvement in your scores b/c you tend to be around the same place when you started.

Cousland is one of those rock star professors everyone universally loves. ToM was one of my favorite classes--You'll find yourself liking the lectures AND actually actively learning stuff (as opposed to some "fun" electives). I have nothing bad to say, go sign up for his class.

Hilarious- especially when he's the only one laughing at his jokes because other students are too jaded. Pay attention and you are sure to find this subject interesting, memorable, and well worth every minute- even if you don't show up to a few classes.

A great prof! Very helpful, flexible and nice. Paper topic was open-ended so you could pick whatever you liked. Two short midterms, one term paper, no final. one textbook, and material was covered at a reasonable pace. Definetly reccomended if you're interested in history/socioloy/religion!

Probably the best lecturer I have ever had. He combines a Socratic class participation model with wit and humor (He does impressions of Tom Waits!). One of the best classes and professors ever.

He's a cool prof. I especially liked the flexibility of the paper topic and the fact that we got to choose the paper due date. The films and guest speakers were an interesting touch to the course.

Very jovial; tells the most horrible puns but somehow manages to make that work for him; helpful and a fair marker; ties myth into modern popculture; lets the class choose the midterm format and the paper due date
