This was probably the hardest class I have ever taken. Although he is the best teacher i have had so far. He makes sure you understand the information and gives out tons of extra credit. At first i was failing but i ended up with an A by just going to class. At first it seems impossible but just stick with it; it will get much easier.

This class is pretty hard, but as long as you manage to go to class you can pull up your grade as long as you stick with the class if you happen to do bad with the homework or an exam. Really good teacher..just gets slack like us towards the end of semester

I recommend any of his classes and signing up for ACM programming team (he's a coach). If you're at all unclear about Big-O notation, you won't be after this class. Lots of studying, but it's completely worthwhile and pays off, both in terms of grade and understanding. Plus, as of Spring'09, he's using Python in this class. Good chance to learn it.

I've taken 3 courses with Dr. Hochberg. He is an excellent, brilliant, enthusiastic instructor who pushes students hard. He can explain difficult concepts clearly, and for all he demands, I get so much back for my efforts. Forget required courses; Dr. Hochberg should be a required professor. If you are eager to learn, he is eager to teach.

One of my favorite professors in the CSCI dep. His teaching style is great. He "plays" like he's not at all sure how to solve a problem, and with the class discovers the answer using the tools and methods taught. Take your CSCI Math classes with him!

You definately need to goto as many classes as possible. Doing homework is also something that most will need to keep up in this class. You could miss one day and miss an entire section in the book, and learning this stuff in your own time can be quite difficult. The professor has a great sense of humor and is always willing to help. Ask questions!

Extremely unprepared for class. Corrects himself many times in each class. clearly does not know the subject matter and will mark correct answers incorrect and vice-versa. Having said that, he will give you a good grade if you are on his good side. But you don't want to know what happens if he doesn't like you. Your grade will be affected.

One of the best teachers I've had at a university. Extremely helpful (even in his free time) and seems to actually WANT students to pass (as opposed to many of the other professors I've had). Best teacher you could possibly have in this subject, which is hard as balls.

Funny guy, has good sense of humor, however it is still a very nasty class. Seemed to be harder than it should have been. Extremely hard to predict what to expect on the tests, for myself I studied alot of material and saw totally new problems on the test that were never really covered before.

He is a very fair professor, helpful outside of class. He explains things clearly and he does keep his word: he promised once to give us 100% for some major assignment if he doesn't grade it on time; the assignment was graded late and the promise was kept. :-)
