If you take this class, be prepared to read, read, read. Unfortunately, this is a weed out class which is not exactly the best thing for non majors who need the credits.

Goodrich is truly one of the best professors in NMU's history department, if not the entire university. His kindness and genuine concern for students isn't seen much in other classrooms. His 100 levels are used to "weed out" the weaker history majors - if you aren't doing well, change your major. Surprisingly, higher levels get easier.

I am taking a class with him online and I regret taking it. I don't like to say rude things but I don't want another student to end up in the position I am in. He is a nice person and all but the way he runs his class isn't right. His tests are RIDICULOUS! And I have been sending him multiple emails and he hasn't replied in weeks.

He's beyond confusing, and not terribly helpful, he's just uhh, he's a nice person, but nice doesn't get a degree in history. He expects way to much, and very seldom uses the book, I leave his class more confused than interested.

Not easy, but take this class if you want to understand history, not the memorization of dates. If you are willing to work you will gain an understanding of historical trends than is unsurpassed. He answers questions better than sutdents ask them. This may sound stupid, but this class is the closest I have ever come to learning the meaning of life.

One thing I can say about Dr. Goodrich is that he knows his stuff. He's very knowledgeable about his subject, but he has a hard time conveying it to students who might be experiencing the material for the first time. He's an incredibly difficult teacher and he's one of those teachers who thinks "you have no other classes except his".

The hardest 100 level class I've ever taken. I couldn't imagine a 400 level class with Robbie. I'm 30 years old, I keep up with the workload just fine. Would have failed this class if taken right out of high school. lectures are interesting but mostly off topic. I like this class but understand how some wouldn't. expect to be challenged!

Very good prof. Knows his stuff! Dialect is great, sometimes confusing. Very fair grader. Takes attendance every day. If you miss more than 5 days you fail. If you don't miss any you get a boost in your grade...kind of cool. Just keep up on the readings and you'll do fine. Quizzes and tests on Web CT. If you miss a quiz, he'll open it back up..

Great class until you hit WWI. At that point the class devolves into a twice a week 2 hour long America-Bashing session. He isn't a bad guy, but he is an academic elitist of the highest order. He is just left of Marx. If you're a Bush-basher ,as probably 99% of college students are, you'll love his class. Just keep on preaching to that choir robbie

Talks in circles and makes no sense. Uses big words on the exams so you waste half your time looking them up so you can understand the questions. Be prepared for LOTS of reading (exams are five chapters each and you have to read it all to even try to pass a test)

I took it online. It's a lot of reading (5 chapters every 2 weeks with a quiz for each chapter). Lots of participation (weekly discussions and chats), but if you do all of the participation and improve 10% from 1st to last test you go up a full grade. Open book tests and quizzes. He wants you to learn and get a good grade.

If you believe the only people who have benefitted from the industrial revolution, techonology, post industrial revolution, and any other point of history that has changed the world are rich people while poor ppl only "suffered" and didn't benefit, this is the class for you. He is a rabid marxist/socialist and un-American but France is great!

Very annoying hard to follow. "I expect concisness from you [students] however, it is neither required nor expected from me." Pretty much sums up his class. Goes on tangents and teaches in the Socratic method so you have to "draw your own logical conclusions" but they have to be the RIGHT conclusions otherwise you get one h*ll of a low grade.

This is a teacher that is definitely not here to be your friend, but in the end you cant help but love him regardless. He really knows what he's talking about and is really good at making you question everything you have ever believed.

Yes, Prof. Goodrich expects a LOT, but he gives just as much effort as he expects. Always answers e-mails and is very fair with the grading. It isn't fair to say his tests are cryptic - they simply require higher-level thinking and not mere memorization. I took this online and found it challenging, but worth it.

I think I learned more in HS 316 than I have in any one particular class over the past four years. Dr. Goodrich expects a lot from you, but if you keep up with the readings, and actually take time to think about what you read, you shouldn't do too bad. Dr. Goodrich is not an "Easy" teacher, but if you pay attention, you'll learn a lot.

He will grade you hard. This is just how it is. You turn in essay, you get D - B. A's are rare, but possible on the second or third drafts. I recommend this class, it is about more than the grades.

he expects a lot from his students. he does talk in circles but it's clear and helps to tie events together. read the material because he will call on you. he grades EXTREMELY FAIRLY. all you have to do is improve.
