Worst professor I've ever had. Clearly passionate about engineering and heat studies but cannot articulate it coherently for the life of him. Ridiculous exams and projects with no rubrics. Tends to veer off topic. His handouts are confusing. Syllabus is a mess. Interesting material but a miserable class. It's not impossible to pass but good luck.

Great teacher, but he expects a lot. He is willing to answer questions and help but also challenges you to think. This class requires a lot of time spent studying to do well.

Dr. Ash is genuinely a nice person, who wants you to learn. However, his lectures are not helpful as he never stays on topic. This class relies heavily on your math skills. Knowing PDEs will save you but it's not a prereq! Expect to be slammed with work from this class. Studying the book on my own saved me. Partial credit will be your best friend.

this guy cant stay on topic in his lectures for more than 5 minutes. His homework takes the entire 2 weeks that its assigned to do. The only reason i have an idea whats going on is because i took PDE at the same time. Jumps arounds the textbook, be ready to read chapter 1 then jump to 12 then back to 6. Only good thing is problems are step by step

Dr. Ash is a great guy and a good professor. He is not one to hand out grades, so be ready to fight tooth and nail the entire semester. Expect lots of reading, homework assignments, and hard tests. But in return, you will have a strong understanding of the material Ash is teaching. He is very easy to talk to and encourages class participation.

Dr. Ash teaches in a style that forces you to think and learn the material for yourself. He does not teach the material, rather he forces you to teach yourself based on a never ending barrage of questions. As someone who learns by example and gets lost in thought circles his class has been a never ending nightmare and I hope never to take him again

Had Dr. Ash for Thermo back in '83. I could tell he had a real pasion for the material. He was never one to just give out grades. When you get out in the work world and come up against Purdue and Tech grads you'll be thankfull for guys like Bob Ash.

I highly recommend taking a course from this professor IF you actually like the material and want to learn it. The ONLY way it will be an "easy" A is if you love the subject matter. Expect about twice to three times the work as your other courses. He's very busy, but always finds time to help a willing student.

First off don't take him. His class has roughly 6 times as much work as other sections. A test problem takes 15 min just to understand what it's asking. Difficult projects every couple of weeks. Basically, he's one of the professors that is smarter than you and loves to show it. That said he is helpful, but if you don't take him you won't need help

This professor knows his stuff but doesn't know how to teach younger students. He expects way to much in this basic course. He is extremely unclear but his enthusiasim for the matieral is admirable.

The second you register for his class you are immediately expected to scour blackboard. He never tells you what's going on, which is inconvenient because he will grade your assignments as if he gave you a detailed explanation of the requirements. He sends you 10 emails per hour about how half the class is failing, and makes you wonder, why?

He can't relate to students well, his explanations are foggy at best. His instructions on assignments are incredibly vague, and can be very arrogant when you don't read his mind and produce the level of work that he expects. His "teaching" methods are dry and include reading from power points and doing NO example problems.

Difficult. High level of math used, some difficult concepts for a 100 level course. Had a sheet with due dates and course facts, but made us turn it back in- then gets upset when you miss the 'noon' due date. Probably not meant to teach a 100 level course.

You will not get an A in this class unless you write like a dissertation on space exploration. I have done calc and physics and i find the math he teaches in this 100 level course harder than calc... seriusly... u will be lost... and then u have to write everything u learned about his crazy math in your final paper... its hard.. he is irritated

Ash does not tell you what he wants when assigning anything, but sends a horrible email when everybody does it wrong and blames it on anything but his teaching. If you want to learn someting and can avoid him do it, if not you can probobly do decent because in his class an A is a max of 85.
