Comment:
He is a horrid lecturer and does not even finish all the problems he starts in class. His curve is the most absurd thing I've ever seen, he takes your score over the average and divdes that by 135% to figure out your score. . . .he should be fired. Avoid him, especially if you have to take more chem after him.

Bohn isn't the best lecturer, but his quizzes and exams are very reasonable, he drops your lowest exam, quiz, and lab grades, and he gives a pretty generous curve. Easy class, but expect to do all of your learning from the book rather than from him.

Very poor lecture teacher. All learning must be done from the book. Doesn't care about students. Sets up curve so that you can beat the class average on every exam and still get a C. Go figure.

He is quite possibly be the worst teacher I've ever had. I ended up getting an A in the class but taught myself everything and had a really good TA

This guy is not a good professor. His exams do not reflect his slide show lectures. You must teach yourself in this class by doing homework and reading the text. Also his exams are not fair. its hard to get an A because he puts random questions that arent on the homework or slides, and there is a bell curve in your favor of getting a C

This is a hard class. You can tell he cares about his students and is very knowledgable but he does not explain topics very well. A lot of outside learning. Exams are fair.

going to lecture is pointless. he reads directly off the slides which you can just get offline. his exams are hard but he curves. he focuses a lot on conceptual material and thats where most people get points off on the exam. do the practice exams they are helpful.

I didn't go in to the class with high expectations. I think Bohn did a good job creating fair exams that were usually curved. The lectures are hard to sit through, but he seems to want you to learn something from him. The hard part of the class is just the fact that it's general chemistry at UConn. It's going to suck.

Very old and starting to lose touch with teaching. Not the best chemistry professor at UConn. You need to teach yourself, but that is not what will be on the exam. Overall, I would not recommend Dr. Bohn.

Lectures consist almost entirely of quantitative examples, which can help but they also make the lectures very non-essential. He's quirky, old-fashioned, and I think damn funny (even if occasionally offensive). Overall, I liked him.

Comment:
Dr. Bohn is boring, bad General Chem professor. He chooses to give you the actual history of each chem concept. Obviously, this is NOT helpful for those of us who want to do well on the exams. This causes him to run out of time to explain the math part. Did bring in experiments to show certain concepts, though they were a small part of the class.

Bohn is a great guy who really really cares about his students. He Is pretty old school and very helpful, If you seek out help or pay attention in class. Sure, you need to do work on your own... its college... I learned a lot from him and was able to pass the ACS exam 3 years after I took the class. Plus, he is hilarious.

Don't waste your tuition money taking this course! For what UConn charges for tuition, this guy does not live up to expectations! You are better off just buying a few chemistry textbooks and teaching yourself! By far one of the worst instructors I have ever had! Just blows through some examples without really explaining anything.

Test questions are occasionally unfair, and lectures can be obtuse, but Dr. Bohn is a genuinely nice guy with a very "old-school" friendliness about him. He curves strongly in the end.

This professor does NOT allow cheat sheets for summer classes, making them essentially impossible to do well in, since he doesn't teach any material relevant to his exams. If you take his class, GOOD LUCK!

He is a really bad teacher. Anything I learned in the class was by teaching myself or getting outside help. The only reason why I did okay in the class is because he curves a lot and allows you to use cheat sheets on the exams. Do not take Honors Chemistry if he is teaching it; you will probably do better and learn more in regular chemistry.
