I absolutely love this man. He is the sweetest professor I've ever had. I'm mad that I only had time to take his gened class. It's a shame that he is retiring. JMU is loosing an excellent and knowledgeable professor. If you had him for a gened class consider yourself lucky, he's easy in comparison to what you could have had.

I love this guy, at first I thought he was monotone and boring but after a week he was one of my favorite teachers. His class requires a lot of reading but if you keep up and review you will be fine. The first exam I studied for an hour before class and got a B

Prof Geary is a nice guy who knows his stuff, but classes are pretty hard to get through. I would try to pay attention and found it nearly impossible. English was always my strong point, but the tests are hard and he is a tough paper grader. You'll live if you take him, but I'd try another english class first!

This class was miserable. First off I want to say that Dr. Geary is a very nice man, but not a good teacher. He is very smart, but also frequently gets off topic and rambles on and on. Lectures were boring, readings were miserable, and tests sucked. Tests include specific quotes from poems and require ID of the author and poem - very, very hard

I'm an English major and I found this class tedious. Long, boring lectures are spiced with useless tangents that are supposed to entertain but really deter from learning. VERY prone to rambling. Quizzes almost every day (they are all pop qz's). YOU MUST READ. SERIOUSLY. DO NOT SKIM. READ. EVERY WORD.

A tough subject for me. Readings are individually heavy but the overall workload wasn't overbearing. Grades fairly and is always willing to help or work with students. Knows the subject, respects it, and wants students to learn. By the end I found the class insightful, interesting, & well worth it.

wonderful teacher. he grades pretty easily, but he does expect you to read and to read closely. his attendance policy is pretty laid back but he is strict about it (like he gives you a lot of absences but if you go over, you're screwed). MUST TAKE!
