The HatchMan is an awesome professor. He is a huge source of knowledge, and if you want to make a career in being a scholar this man will be more than happy to assist you. READ the material, PARTICIPATE in discussions and above all: consult the syllabus before you ask questions pertaining to class (it's the Hatch Mantra).

My friend took this class and this man is a terrible professor. He was suicidal during this class. What's worse is he has a pungent smell. His puny brain prevents anyone from learning, and he is very asinine when dealing with students.

WHOA NELLY! There is so much reading to do in this class. He makes you print out a million pages of things to read! I ended up with a C+ for barely reading them all. Very Boring subject and only took it since it was the last thing available! It might sound interesting but it's not. He is way funny guy and really cool but the class...not so cool!

He is the man. PERIOD. If you dont want to think about life, and the issue you are supposed to be learning then don't take his class. But if you are tired of hearing teachers throw out B.S. dates and facts at you and want some substance then take the Hatchmaster's class. Plus he is a huge movie buff and makes sweet analogies

Excellent lecturer. If you have any interest at all in philosophy or history of science, you will enjoy him. Show up to class, ask questions (he really will never make you feel stupid for asking simple questions), and spend a good amount of time reading and thinking about the material and you'll do fine.

There's a ton of work, but if you're interested in the subject you'll be interested in the class. Just show up when he tells you to and listen to what he says and you'll do fine. Did I mention there's a ton of work?

This class is as much a "circle discussion" as it is a lecture on his part. The books we read are interesting, as are the discussions on them, but the because of the sheer amount material, it's probably one of the most difficult (time consuming) classes out there.

This has to be one of the best courses I have ever taken. Hatch's lectures are profound and incredibly interesting. This class has changed my views on science and has caused me to appreciate it more. He is a very knowledgeable professor and willing to help. It is important to keep up with the reading for the class as only that'll guarantee success.

This guy should not be teaching. He loves the sound of his own voice. His lectures are dry altough you get the feeling he thinks they are great.

Hatch is probably the best professor I've had at the University so far. He's received a load of teaching awards. He's incredibly thought provoking and his lectures kept my attention throughout the course of the course. Lots of reading and lots of thinking are needed to succeed. I hope to take again.

Probably one of the most demanding courses I've taken at UF. However, one of the most rewarding. If you put the effort in, you will gain a lot of out it. Not for the fainthearted, but if you like a challenge, it's worth the time and effort.

Super hard history of science class. He just sat on his desk like an old hippie and expected an in depth theoretical conversation. I didn't understand a thing.

ALmost impossible. Lectures move too fast and aren't clear; readings are long, dry, long, difficult and long. If you spend 6 nights a week in the library, you might have a shot. If you've ever had sex or drank a beer, you don't have a chance.

He is very boring and he goes through lectures very fast. He is fair in grading but its true there is a lot of reading involved. The exams are based on your readings. Nice guy.

This was the most reading of any class I took - it was impossible to do everything, but I think that's the point. You'll think incredibly hard, but if you can handle the work, he is a good professor overall.
