Prof Hyers tries to be a really good professor. It just doesn't work out. He is rarely prepared for class and tends to have to pull lectures out of a hat because his prepared notes almost never work out. The tests are absolutely nothing like the homework problems or anything from lecture and way harder than they need to be. Not a fun time.

Hyers is very confusing overall, his explanations are not clear and his projected notes are difficult to read. I found it difficult to learn from his lectures, so reading the book and watching professors on Youtube were essential to do well on tests. The tests varied wildly in difficulty. Hyers is a nice guy, just not a great teacher.

Terrible professor. Lectures are uninformative with regards to test material, and he is often unprepared altogether (gets example problems wrong in class). Grading is fine because of a ridiculous curve to compensate for test averages well below 50. The only reason to go to class is the iClicker question. Look up Jeff Hanson on youtube.

Professor Hyers' lectures are very confusing and not very informational. The only reason to go is for the one iclicker. The homework is pretty straight forward, but beware the tests are nothing like the homework. He writes his own tests and the directions are unclear and unfair based on the material he has taught. Avoid at all costs.

Horrible teacher. Most of the good ratings are due to the fact that he heavily curves test grades in order to make up for his own incompetence in. Average grade on the first test was 32! With the curve students were getting A's with failing test scores. You will probably pass but won't learn anything due to Hyers' horrible teaching abilities.

Very nice Prof. Always willing to help students (saw him give a textbook to a student who didn't have one). Exams were a bit tricky, but the grading was generous. Actually do the hw and you should be ok.

Not a horrible Prof. Weekly homework, 2 midterms and a final. Easy if you keep up and don't wait till the last minute to do crap (which you probably will). Otherwise, not super clear in class, but very flexible with office hours and does have a general desire to help students. Good engineering prof.

WORST TEACHER-accuses innocent students of academic dishonesty on hw's. Encourages students to work on hw together but then mass accuses them of cheating when evidence of the solution manual is found on assignments. Totally neglects the fact that the solution is wrong in the back of the book as well. UMASS made a big mistake hiring this one...

Decent teacher. He is rather awkward at office hours and he isn't prepared to answer questions that he assigns. NEVER copy solutions form a manual or have similar homework to friends for he will accuse you of academic dishonesty whether or not you cheated. I got accused for no reason other than the book had the wrong answer.
