I absolutely love this teacher. He is kind and talkative and makes you speak about yourself. He uses a metaphor where once you let yourself go, you become a better writer and coming from a writer, He is right. I love you Lapides, you are like a grandfather to me!!!

worst professor I've ever taken, he has absolutely no grading system, judgmental and hurtful! doesn't matter if you hand and all your work, show up on time. He picks and chooses who he likes.I left his class always feeling bad about myself.

A really great professor. He will help you deepen your writing if you let him. What he discusses in class covers a lot of topics, but always relates back to the themes in the reading and the honesty you need to be able to write well.

He really does make a six credit english class worthwhile and very easy. However, he does go off topic all the time and talks about his life and political opinion. Read the books and participate in class. You could get at least a B-. In order to get an A you have to be a really good writer and come up with an interesting topic. I got an A-

This class is really easy but you have to do the reading. He is really picky about the way you write. If you don't write something interesting you won't get anything higher than a B-, he says so in class. He doesn't teach, mostly talks about politics and/or religion, is very sarcastic, and goes off topic all the time. He has no grading policy.

I think this professor is very judgmental and he will make you feel uncomfortable in class. If you don't like reading your writing in class for him to judge then avoid this processor. I think he also has some mental issues. His choice of reading is interesting thought. I believe the smart students in the class are what makes the class interesting.

He's an awful teacher, he goes on tangents then when you get into the conversation he changes it and tells you we are getting off topic, we never follow a lesson plan and his grading system doesn't even exist, i wouldn't be surprised if graded students off of letters that he picks out of a hat, this class doesn't even talking about contemp writers!

This is the one of the most boringest professor I had. he never leaves notes on the board and all he does is sitting there talking about his personal life and how crappy it is when he was young. The paper you write he doesnt leave comments, so don't know whats going on. Very disrespectful person, he will turn off people in class.

One of a kind indeed. Professor Lapides is unique and interesting. He picks great choices for reading and also interesting topics to help one develop the basic skills of writing. Professor Lapides is a funny man. I enjoyed his class. Though he is kind of obsessed with the black culture, I find it interesting because I am black. All our readings were best on racial issues. He likes to talk alot. We had to do journal entries and a couple of Exam essays. I would say it's an easy class...a lil more work then others though! ;-D

Dr. L exposes his students to great texts. However the manner in which they are studied isn't helpful, for he primarily focuses on contextual elements and offers little in terms of critical analysis. How should one write about literature? Upon completing his course, I can't answer this question.
