Yes, his powerpoints are a little hard to follow. But if you can get past that, he knows his stuff inside and out and he's unusually dedicated to individual student welfare. Plus, if you show interest in his presentations, he will be really nice to you - and I think he's a good person to have on your side! All in all, I give him positive marks.

Patient, and brilliant economist. Cannot explain things well, so this class is one of the most difficult to be at.

Brillant Man who has unlimited patience with students and concepts. Take classes that are his strong suits such as: Quantitative Analysis, Development Economics, of Intro to Trade. The only reason people do badly is becasue they either didn't go to class or care about economics.

Comment:
McCleery is a seriously brilliant man. However, teaching may not be his greatest gift - he can look at something and understand in 2 seconds and may not understand why students aren't the same. That said, I have never met a man with more patience - in office he will go over and over the material happily till the student gets it.

Comment:
Ineffective. Uses endless, sloppy PowerPoint presentations. No homework sounds great until test time, when you realize there was no opportunity to practice; doesn't use a textbook or assign daily questions. Take Econ. at a community college before enrolling in the MBA program, then do the placement test to escape McCleery.

He obviously knows his stuff, but if you're not economically minded you'll have no clue what he's talking about. He's exceptionally boring and I hated his class more than any other I took at MIIS.

Comment:
a very good economist with lots of field experience in intl development, esp. in asia. rich in knowledge. excellent for those reasons. those who don't like econ have a hard time with him as he's a clasical economist and speaks like one. but he works hard to try to help everyone understand a complex field.

Althoug sometimes confusing, he certainly thinks like an economist. He has incredible knowledge of the course, and is very responsive to queries.

Besides the fact that I had to fight the urge to capture and give him a makeover, I thought the man made IE520 into Economics for Dummies , which was right up my alley. Helpful, broke the information down to the basics and gave out all the powerpoints.

Has the knowledge, but no ability to explain it to mere mortals. Needs work as an instructor. If you're not already very strong in Econ, avoid him.
