Very knowledgeable professor, and actually interesting to listen to, but can get sidetracked during lectures. Wasn't really sure if we needed to know something for the class or if he was just chatting about other things. He didn't know a lot about the programming assignments, but lectures really helped with general idea. Did not use textbook ever.

It's his first time to teach this class,by accident...so he was not fully familiar with the class materials. However he was passionate in teaching and always tryed to give it better. Both programs and exams were not very hard. In class he enjoyed misspelling words and interacting with students(i.e. letting students make fun of him~)

Horrendous Teacher. The class was impossible, the message never got across. He really cannot teach at all and should immediately be fired. Before this class I was an aspiring CS Major and after it I dropped it all together and changed my major to something else because of how horrible he made CS for me. He has to be the worst teacher ever at MTU.

I'm still amazed at how he pushes you onto lab coaches, teacher assistants, past students, and then...finally...he'll help you during office hours if you have a question.

Pastel has a bit of a "learning curve" to get used to him - and he's not for everybody. You may learn more by reading the book. Often he'll tell you how to do the programs in class, and you'll get more out of the class if you interact with him. Overall, a good teacher - if you like his style.

The ONLY part I enjoyed was the java lab. It was similar to CS1121/1122 but without the animator. I enjoyed that. Learned a lot from the lab coaches. Unfortunately... the class was another story. Not only does he sound and act retarded (literally), his exams are impossible. Be sure to memorize every cost for every data structure ever taught

Pastel has to be the quirkiest dude I've ever had as a prof, and totally a great guy. His speech and writing impediments don't really get in the way of the lecture at all (sort of make it more interesting), and he is awesome at explaining concepts, even funny at times. Really wish he taught Discrete

Here is an awesome example of the "Absent Minded Prof" spelling and word usage at a minimum but is very used to kids correcting his lectures, and those who do tend to get on his good side, so speak up. Questionable whether he "tries" to learn your name or call you something close.
