Comment:
Worst, most unhelpful professor. In a honors class of 13 students (The US and China) he spent each class lecturing nonstop off of the top of his head with no notes or presentation. As a result, the lectures were scattered, hard to follow, and boring. He does not have office hours, email, or a blackboard site. There is no way to communicate with him

Prof. Thompson is a very interesting guy who used to work for the CIA or FBI or something. His lectures are like listening to a story. The reading is way too much and super boring. Only 3 grades: midterm, term paper, and final. You need to work decently hard for an A. Argue your points if you think you deserved a different grade; he listens

"History of International Relations Since 1914" was the course - great professor. Very interesting, knowledgeable, and funny if you pay attention. Wants his students to succeed - you're guaranteed an A on the term paper if you have half a brain in your head. Definitely recommend this professor and the course.

This course was the Rise and Fall of the British Empire. He lectures every class period, but as long as you're there, and as long as you take sufficient notes, you're going to be fine on the tests. He gives you three chances to write the essays and grades the essays based on what you know. You're going to be okay, even if you think you're not.

This was "US and the Middle East." Doesn't use notes, straight out of his head. As a result, everything is scattered and he freely admits that he doesn't remember what he talks about in class. No guidance on 2 exams and paper that make up your whole grade. Picks favorites, hates the rest of class. This is my favorite subject...but avoid this prof!

Dr thompson is an old guy who teaches because he likes to. This was the fall and rise of china course. He knew his stuff and had at least one **** or inappropriate joke a day to keep it interesting. I never did anything for this class, I didnt even read the articles my final paper was on and got an A. easy, funny, old and stubborn prof.

Prof. Thompson really knows his stuff, and makes history pretty interesting. I took LOTS of notes, looked over them the night before the test, and did fine. The exams were broad, but he gave you hints of what was on it. He was also very fair in letting you turn in 3 drafts of the term paper with feedback before he actually gave you a grade on it.

This was History of American Foreign Politics Honors. He gave the MOST SCATTERED notes ever. We had a paper that was 25%, first exam 25%, and final was 50%. Horrible teacher because 75% of my grade was still up in the air before the last day of class. I would suggest against him. He's tough and a bad teacher. Grades harshly as well.

Without a doubt the worst professor and most worthless class I have had at USC. I learned absolutely nothing. Thompson has not lost his pomposity, but his mind is slipping into senility. Assignments are easy, but he fails almost everyone (even those with straight A's throughout semester) on final. Did this again in another class my friend took.

Dr. Thompson is a bright and dignified teacher/scholar and I respect him a lot.He has been on the History Channel special on Pearl Harbor and has studied the Cuban Missile Crisis. A very good teacher and definitely a very nice man. I am proud to have met him.

More than helpful, and he seems to actually use blackboard. Shocking, I know. If you have an education section of U101, then try and get his class.
