Kampfner is a really nice guy. Though he forgot about our meeting, he agreed to review one of my labs for more points. That said, he is an absolutely awful professor. Reads from PowerPoints, which are nothing more than book material, in his thick accent. Doesn't break down the (sometimes insane) material very well. Nice guy, horrible prof.

Comment:
Horrible. Doesn't teach material. Everything is on powerpoint and is word for word copied from the book. Doesn't give his own expertise to class. Some people get 100's on tests, but they cheat since he allows cheat sheets and people get ahold of old tests and copy that onto the sheet. There is NO WAY anyone can get a 100 in this class. Fact.

Comment:
Professor Kampfner is a nice guy, but the mixture of his accent and inadequate volume made his lectures rather useless. His slides come almost directly from the textbook, with some consolidation, but are available online. Thus, the best choice for this class is usually to skip the lecture and read from the printed slides.

Complete waste of time going to class. Studying on your own is a thousand times more productive than going to his lectures. Reads off of slides that come directly from the book. I could probably teach that class as well as he does, since I can read a book too.

This was the worst teacher I've ever had in my entire academic career. I've completed one bachelors program and am coming back to school, so I've experienced a reasonable variety, but nothing to compare with the abject uselessness of this class. Read the book and go over the slides. Much more efficient than trying to pay attention in class.

Don't bother going to class. Cannot even hear him unless you sit in the first row, and can't understand his mumbles even if you do. All his Powerpoints and assignments can be done line. Tests aren't too bad if you're familiar with the material. Nice guy, just a useless professor.

You'll waste too much brain power trying to convert his sounds to words to sentences to ideas/concepts. Just tune out his voice and read the slides. Problem is, he goes through them at an inconsistent speed, so you'll want to print them out (the 6-slide/page setting saves paper). I'd say take a different prof, but for this class he's the only one.

He shouldn't be teaching. He is nice if you talk to him, ,returns emails on time. But his teaching is just horrible. Hard to understand and reads directly of the slides. Find previous year exams and go over the Midterm/Final review material and you easily get a B! He has 3 labs, not hard.Find previous year exams. Talk to fellow CIS students!!!

Worst instructor I've ever encountered at this or any school. Incomprehensible accent, reads slides to class, does not answer questions. If you want someone to read the book to you in a foreign language, this is the class for you. If you want to learn the material, you are probably safer sleeping with the book on your face and hoping for the best.

this guy is horrible. It's the worst experience at UMD i had by far. i didn't go to class from the midterm to the final and still got a solid A in the class. It's ridiculous. All you need to is find last years exams and you'll be set for an A, no joke.

He is the worst teacher I ever had since the first grade. You donĂ¢€™t understand what he says; you canĂ¢€™t read from the projector if you are not sitting in the first three rows, because he only has word documents (not slides). His exam is all calculations, which you never see in his lectures. He deserves the title of the worst teacher in the CIS dept.

Not good for 275 at least. Puts chapters from the book into an adobe acrobat reader and just reads them during class. No examples, no exercises, and for exams just tells us to read these chapters and do the problems. Very hard to understand as well. Programs aren't bad, but that's the only thing good I'd say.

Nice guy, but find me a professor who can actually TEACH a student programming and you have my vote. Not a good professor at all, can't teach you how to program whatsoever. Good luck with any CIS prof at UM-D. C plus plus...

The information processes of the application data structures must be supported using the ASM methodologies in accordance with the information needs of the specific decision-making functionality. If you can udnerstand/write like that, you will be fine.

This is my 2nd class with him and I used to think he was a kind prof who didn't realize he was retarded. Now I think he is a genius who published his own works so he can quote from them all the time even though they mean nothing and are meant to confuse.
