Best math prof. Ive ever meet!! He is patient and respectful to students. Math 377 has complicated course material but Rod explains clearly to us. His notes is clear and useful, homework is hard to do but exams are quite easy.

Always available to help if you email him, which is necessary for the very challenging and lengthy assignments. Really knows how to explain complicated math concepts in class.

Comment:
He is a terribly bland prof. Halfway through the semester I stopped going to his lectures and used that time to teach myself out of the textbook, this worked much better as he simply confuses you with his poorly explained theorems and proofs. He also does not do many actual examples with numbers. I'd recommend reading ahead before going to lecture.

I like Mr Edwards, he is a nice guy. Keeps you very busy with examples and theorems from the minute you walk in until it's over. 50 minute classes passed extremely quickly for a math class. I liked his teaching style, though for this course I had to do a lot of studying alone afterwards to understand what was said in the lecture.

I flunked math 100 my first time around with a normal lecture style. Taking the course with Dr Edwards was far more interesting and easy to understand. Watch the video's, do the suggested and required problems and you will do very well in this course even if you do not really understand calculus.

Calculus is actually not so scary if you can keep up with 3 chapters per week. I preferred his style of posting videos vs lecturing the theories- you can deal with the info at your own pace and you're motivated to stay on top of the work by the clicker questions.(The textbook explanations are atrocious.) Expect a few hard word problems on the exam.

Not my favorite teacher. His lectures were boring and unproductive. His teacher style is this: post questions on the projector, get students to answer with the clicker, and explain the answer. I can see why this can be appealing, but I find this doesn't utilize my time when I know the material and methods already. That is what math help is for.

Comment:
Theory is not explained in his lectures, requires you to read up before clicking for participation, consisting mostly of examples of the course content. His homework assignments might add a bit of credit, but otherwise a lecture with theories is preferred, better to bring a few examples to strengthen one's fundamental knowledge in calculus.

IF YOU ARE A BEGINNER IN CALCULUS, YOU MUST CHOOSE DR. EDWARDS. HIS CLASS FILLS UP QUICKLY SO HURRY!!! Also, if you learn best from examples, you will do okay in his class. He is somewhat helpful during office hours too. Assignments/midterms are quite difficult so you MUST go to the math help center at all times. Don't slack off a second in calc!

Edwards was much better for 101 than he was for 100. His assignments were tough but fair as were his tests. Of course I would still never recommend learning math from UVic as your GPA will suffer, but if you must, Edwards is an OK choice.

Best math prof you can have. He will do anything he can to make things easier for you. Extremely helpful and likeable professor. Tests are hard but if you follow his lectures/hw closely, you would do just fine. I wish I could have more classes with him. p.s. His classes get filled pretty fast, register early and come to class early. Enjoy!!

Great prof, had him for both Math 100 and 101. Has the "grandpa" feel to him, explains examples really well. Expects you to come to class having read material and know theory, then does tons of exampls. Excellent math prof.

Edwards spends way too much time explaining the basic algebra of every single example but if you pay close attention in class it is not impossible to learn this way. He is a really sweet guy (would be a great grandpa!), great out of class, but not the best teacher in my opinion.

Teaches mostly through examples, which some people like and some don't; I found it to be quite helpful. His assignments are a little on the hard side, and sometimes cover things that other profs of the same course don't teach, so try to be in his section! He is also surprisingly helpful and friendly outside of class.

Comment:
Edwards moves much too quickly through his outrageous number of examples, and takes such large steps while solving, it's nearly impossible to follow. If you need to be taught the process behind the math, find another prof, or be prepared to fail. If you learn by repetition through examples, with little justification for the math, fill your boots.
