Comment:
Dr. Byrne is by far the most enthusiastic professor I have had in my life. The class is not very hard as long as you take your time to understand how everything works. Lecture attendance is not necessary as he posts his notes verbatim on his website, but you will want to attend every one of his classes because of how enthusiastic he is.

If you ever want to see an enthusiastic Prof to litterally vault over desks to help students - take this man.

He teaches really fast, and if you're not already super keen on programming don't bother taking the course (although prior programming knowledge is not required). Not a good prof and doesn't want to listen to the students who are struggling.

Comment:
The assignments are lengthy, and require a strong understanding of the content. Notes are post online, but they're difficult to read, and leave out a lot of substance, so taking your own notes is recommended. Online resources for the content are weak at best, so don't rely on them. Prof is enthusiastic and knowledgable. Responds well to questions

Comment:
His labs and assignments are on the hard spectrum. He grades too harshly and his lectures are a little dry and boring. His midterm was also fairly lengthy but fair. He is accessible outside of class but his office hours leave me more confused than i was. He moves very very fast through material.

Great professor who knows what's he is doing, but no awareness for the students taking his course. Marks very unfairly and moves through the material too fast for the average student to handle. This said he is relatively fine if you put in the extra effort.

If not the best, the second best professor I've had in this entire department. He knows his stuff, shows up prepared, and is fair for everyone. The course itself is also great, I highly recommend taking it. You will learn a lot of things you will need at any programmer position. But if you don't care about his class, you. are. DOOMED.

Great lecturer with a truly impressive knowledge of the material he's teaching, but some assignments and projects are difficult and time consuming. He seems to underestimate how hard they are because he's so familiar with them. Exams are long but fair. Felt like i really improved as a programmer after this course.

Rod knows a lot about the subject he is teaching, but is completely out of touch with what constitutes as a fair marking scheme, and the amount of time it takes students to learn his materials, and complete assignments. He would be absolutely amazing if he could comprehend that students in his class are taking more courses than just his.

Comment:
Rod is really knowledgeable and knows CS better than any other prof at MUN. He's a great lecturer. However, he expects a lot of his students, and often he doesn't realize that many students know nothing about topics which are second nature to him. Take him if you want to be truly good at CS and are willing to put in some hard work.

Excellent prof. Good sense of humor, and assignments really make you know the stuff. Exams can be long but I always finished them. He didn't teach mathematical induction well which is the only problem I had.

Did the team project course with Rod, and he sucks as a prof for that course, really bad. Rod seems like he'd be an AWESOME prof for courses with a set curriculum, since the man knows his stuff, but for one where he makes up the entire course (ie the project) from scratch, he can't portray what he wants making the course confusing and upsetting

Best prof on campus..even though I got a low mark (actually, my lowest mark ever), I felt I learned more in this course than any other. Rod is very energetic and is a pleasure to learn from. He makes very boring types seem interesting and fun to learn.

Rod is an amazing programmer and a good professor. Kind of goofy but that's just his character. If you don't do your assignments you won't understand anything and will do poorly in the course. Rod is a good prof, and well respected by students.
