Comment:

Dr. Hyman was a fantastic lecturer who spoke with the class, not at the class. He made the texts studied relevant by relating them to current and historical events and created a space were students were able to share their opinions . His assignments were fair and he was flexible with deadlines when asked. One of my favorite first year profs!

Amazing lecture style. My tutorials we're super relaxed and interesting. I would take his course even if I wasn't interested in the content I enjoyed his teacher so much. Really personal and just super interesting. Just be prepared for the many novels you read throughout the course.

Comment:

For starters, Dr. Hyman is adorable. He lectures like no other; he doesn't even 'lecture,' rather, he DISCUSSES. The class was made up of conversation and discussion. Many students participated, and he makes the learning environment very open and comfortable.

I definitely enjoyed this class. Put the work in, actually read the books (or at least read a few and try to understand what's going on in the others via sparknotes, that's what i did), and unless you're horrible at writing essays i think you should do well. The tutorials are really helpful. Also, Dr. Hyman is absolutely adorable

A wonderful professor and an extraordinary person. Hyman is a gifted lecturer and cares very much about his students. Any class taken with him is sure to be compelling and very worthwhile. Having taken three classes with him, I can honestly say that they were the undisputed highlights of my undergraduate career.

Hyman really knows his stuff & I appreciated his very well thought out lectures (his books were always filled w/ very neatly placed & colour coded post-its). But, what Dr. Hyman knows is What He Knows and he (along w/ the class) will know nothing else! For eg, "Klee Wyck" lectures are almost identical no matter what course code. (But he IS lovely!)

A born teacher! His class is a comfortable and casual learning experience. I can still hear him explaining the centre and margin, and referencing that no man is an island."I am a rock, I am an Island". Not bad for taking this course three years ago! He is a very understanding man.

I took this course in my first year and he REALLY helped me learn how to write better. Because of his extra help, I'm convinced it made me a better scholar. He took the extra time, and put HUMAN into HUMANITIES. Thanks!

I actually look forward to going to his lectures! They're very interesting and thought-provoking. He takes a genuine interest in his students, and somehow manages to conduct discussions in a class of 200 people! Very impressive.
