Class size was really small so you had to be there and know your stuff every day. Classes weren't always that helpful as they were difficult to follow. Tough grader, takes off full points for tiny mistakes.

Really sweet, and seems to really like teaching. That said, she goes a little heavy on speaking Italian for a second semester course. Minor grammar mistakes can really add up on tests. She's pretty cool though

She's a very very nice woman. She's your typical, authentic italian lady. She's not a tough grader, and you can get by without doing much work. However, if you actually want to learn italian, she really isn't the teacher for you. She relies too much on the textbook, and doesn't clarify with english often enough for the second semester course i took

She would get very confused about questions and never answered them in class. Also, I couldn't tell if she was a sloppy grader or a tough one; sometimes she was meticulous and other times (my midterm) wouldn't acknowledge any mistakes (I got a 98). I would suggest taking her only if you feel confident about your Italian skills. Didn't learn much

Marino is wonderful. She is the absolute sweetest and really loves her students. She is always there to help. She's funny and makes you actually like attending her class. Take her class.

She's a very nice woman, but an awful professor in my opinion. She teaches off the top of her head and writes stuff on the board without explaining what it means. She is very misleading too, and gets off topic frequently. I would definitely avoid this professor.

Sweet lady, but gets off topic and then gets frustrated when she can't get control of the class. Doesn't teach, just writes examples on the board. Went from As in 112 to Cs in 211. Avoid unless you're prepared to teach yourself or like to goof off.

I got a B+ in Italian 1 and ended up with a C in 112 Like everyone's said she plays favorites so if your not one of hers RUN. I wasnt a favorite. She expects perfection on her test, which I guess is good, if your really want to perfect your italian. It's not so good when your grade is lowered 10 points by accent marks.

She certainly has favorites. Friendly Personality, helpful in office hours BUT in class she has the habit of racing ferraris. Her grading is MORBIDLY METICULOUS. If you didn't have a previous class with her I would not recommend taking one.

If you were in any of her previous classes, then I highly suggest taking her. If not, stay away from her. She definitely plays favorites, and can switch on a person on a dime. The class work isn't all that hard, and if you study for the tests, you'll be fine. Just watch out for her targeting certain people. Very frustrating because of this.

Marino is the only teacher i have ever had who has been able to make me feel incapable and incompetent. She plays favorites with students who took her for first semester LI111. She teachers by having students repeat what she says, that's what you do all class every class. I love Italian, but Marino has killed the class for me. Consensus: take Raffo

She def. has favorites and not being one makes the class very hard. She doesn't like helping those students as much and pretty quickly passes judgement on who she likes and doesnt. She doesn't explain what you will be learning, she just kind of writes it and expects you to figure it out. Homework isn't bad but the tests are very difficult.

She lowballs your test scores even when you bring it to her and show her that she made a mistake. Assumed I wasn't trying (even though I went to extra help a lot and always turned in the hw) and definitely passes judgement on the little she knew about me. Can be an exellent class if you are one of the favorites, hell if she's decided to hate you.

Signora Marino is amazing! She's really funny and a great teacher. She likes when people participate, and it's a language class, so you have to go. She gives a little homework, but it only takes about 15 minutes and doesn't pick it up most of the time. Study for tests and you'll do fine.

I absolutely loved this class! Marino is hilarious and provides a great class environment. If you are really interested in languages, this course is for you. Some say she picks favorites, but all you really need to do is go to class, raise your hand, and participate and she will like you.

Signora Marino is GREAT. She is very helpful, funny, and the quizzes are easy, especially if you like languages. If you actually try in her class, you'll do well. I don't agree with the other comments that she picks favorites. If you want to do well in a language, TAKE HER CLASS. Thanks for a great year Signora!

Comment:

Its pretty much expected that everyone will get a B or A in the class. As long as you do the exercises, which take about 20min, and study before exams/quizes its pretty easy to pull a B+/A-. She does pick favorites, but they are usually the kids who do the best and show the most interest. I'd recommend her if you really wanna learn italian.
