Comment:
Dr. Leckie wasn't interesting to listen to. He rambled a lot. Books were interesting though. Everything is due at the end of term, so you really have know idea how he marks or how you're gonna do in the class until the very end. Exam wasn't too hard, but he is picky with marking papers.

If you get the chance to take a course with this man that ISN'T creative writing--RUN AWAY. His marking is arbitrary and you will learn absolutely nothing. I haven't heard one person say a positive thing about our class.

Not a bad class but he has strong opinions. When writing essays I suggest meeting with him before passing them in because if you don't argue the points he feels to be "right" then you won't be as happy with your grade.

He knows a lot about the subject matter and is a nice guy. He doesn't really give many opportunities for questions or comments in class, though. Doesn't use e-mail so you have to call him to get hold of him.

Comment:
The nepotism that occured on the reading list for this class was astounding - Ross's name appeared in all but one of the texts as editor or helper. Marking seemed arbitrary.

He makes time to meet with students and discuss ideas for your essays and is willing to look at drafts, yet, he has very rigid ideas about how an essay should be stylistically and requires you to reiterate his ideas rather than encouraging you to explore your own. His marking and comments are arbitrary. Think twice before taking a course with him!

We didn't really get into the kind of detail I expected. The course ended up being rushed as the end approached. Ross is knowledgable. I think he does get locked into his mode of thinking, so if you have a different approach, you will need to convince him. He is willing to discuss most anything.

Very knowledgeable about all kinds of poetry. Challenging, supportive and engaging. Best creative writing instructor I have had. Students who have a problem with him probably just want an easy credit and a place to share their diary and be told they are brilliant no matter what.

Professor Leckie has a marking scheme that is constantly changing, one week something is good, the next it is "cliche" but if you can keep up with it, you will enjoy his class.
