Lots of writing, quiz every class RIGHT at the start so not allowed to come late, lots of reading (80 pages min each class) that the quizzes are on, sometimes 300 pages of reading, lectures are boring -captive audience-. She's super passionate but talks like a machine gun so you lose interest. Basically the class was just too much work.

She makes you work hard for your grade, but she is a great teacher! She is very knowledgeable and you can tell how much work goes into her lectures. She is more than willing to help people who ask, don't know why I stayed intimidated for so long. I ended up doing well and am glad I took the course. Learned a lot.

Roxanne is by far the best hist professor I have ever or will ever have at SFU. She was so interested in the subject and put so much of herself into the class. The final essay was completely reasonable and she was more than glad to help. I will go out of my way to take a class with her again.

This class was great! The quizzes were quite difficult at times as they were based on specific information from the textbook, but they weren't worth much. Paper topics were very fair and straightforward. I would recommend going to her office hours as she gives you extra feedback and clarification on how to improve your essays.

Roxanne is amazing! I highly recommend her! She is genuinely passionate about history and very charismatic/funny. She is also a kind person and thinks about her students. For example, she let us redo a quiz because the class average was low. She also would extend deadlines.

Lots of work (surprised it wasn't a W designated course!) but Roxanne is a very good teacher. She demands a lot from her students but is by no means unreasonable. Lectures were interactive and enjoyable, she wants to help her students succeed. Would absolutely recommend taking classes with her after a nightmare history class with Pabel.

Interesting lectures, boring textbook, disfunctional tutorials, and surprisingly little writing for a W class. As long as you show up and put in some effort you should do well. It's a class well-worth taking and although it probably won't be your favorite ever, it also won't be your least favorite. Also, super nice prof who is willing to laugh.

Her lectures are interesting but they don't have anything to do with what we read in the textbook. I really don't like the textbook she decided to use this semester. It's incredibly wordy, political and BORING! She gives weekly quizzes on the chapter we're to read for that week and sometimes the quizzes are super hard! Over all this class is ok.

Roxanne was a fabulous instructor! Super energetic about the course content and always willing to take questions from students. Very willing to help students in her office hours. Assignments were fair and allowed for students to improve their writing skills. Enjoyed the selection of readings and films we watched in class.

Avoid her like the plague. Realistically, her expectations are too high. Even if you are willing to work hard. By no means am I a lazy student. This woman is satan with a pretty face and bright smile. Unfortunately, you don't know until its too late. Get the bleep out while you can! Consider this your warning!!!

It can be a bit confusing as to what Roxanne expects when doing assignments. Since this course more looks at approaches and methods as oppose to the history itself, it is hard to sift through the historical events and come up with a historical approach. Not your typical history course, though she touches on many different facets of history.

Comment:

Doctor Panchasi makes learning a wonderful experience. She is an incredibly lively, knowledgeable, fun, gorgeous person and exceptionally articulate orator. I am far from doing great in this class but I would definitely take another class with her. Her lectures are elegantly presented but the assignments could appear confusing at times.

She made what could have been my dullest course of the semester, Hst 300 approaches to History, into my favourite! She is a great facilitator and encourages class participation. She really shows that she cares about her students. I would take another course with her in a heart beat!

If she likes you, she will give you a good grade. The ones that pucker up the professor. She is clear and concise during lectures, however, during midterms she may ask you one detail she only went over once in class once. The textbook was almost of no use when it came to the tests (gives you broad info.). Horrible professor underneath a good smile

I love Roxanne! She was interesting, energetic and helpful. She was knowledgeable and very approachable. I found the focus on social implications very helpful because military history can be very dry! If you are looking for a prof that will be a guiding factor in your academic future, get to know Roxanne! I will look for future classes of hers!

Roxanne is a fantastic prof. Can't say enough good things about her. She is helpful, energetic, interesting and interested in her students. She puts a lot in and in turn expects a lot from her students. If you put the effort in, you'll do well. As I read in someone else's posting, if you're there for an easy A you should drop out of school.
